Royal Enfield beats TVS Motors to become fourth largest selling motorcycle brand in India; sold 1,70,292 units between November 2016 and January 2017
Royal Enfield is currently on a roll. The Chennai-based motorcycle manufacturer has become the fourth largest selling motorcycle brand in the Indian market after beating TVS Motors. Sales numbers for Royal Enfield have grown significantly in last few years. The company has sold 1,70,292 units between November 2016 and January 2017 to achieve that feat.
Even after demonetisation issues, Royal Enfield managed to keep its sales record steady despite cash crunch. The main reason behind that is the company doesn’t deal in commuter segment. In December last year, the very popular product from the brand, the Royal Enfield Classic 350, broke into the top 10 selling bikes list. Currently, the leading companies in Indian motorcycle market are the Hero MotoCorp, Bajaj Auto and Honda 2-Wheelers respectively.

In the months of November, December and January, Royal Enfield registered 55,843 units, 56,316 units and 58,133 units respectively. On the other hand, during the same period, TVS Motors sold 45,359 units, 37,136 units and 35,994 units.
While Royal Enfield has experienced raising sales figure, TVS’ sales declined steadily in last three months. The company faced the heat of demonetisation, as it is one of the major players in the commuter segment. In fact, not only TVS, several other motorcycle manufacturers have experienced the decline in their sales due to the cash crunch across the nation.

While Royal Enfield has managed to beat TVS, beating the third spot holder Honda 2-Wheelers won’t be easy. The different between the two company’s sales records is pretty large. Meanwhile, Royal Enfield is working on a 750 cc version of the Continental GT, which is expected to hit the market soon, and strengthen its position further. Upon its launch, it will become the flagship model from the popular brand competing against Harley Davidson Street 750.
