New Renault Megane RS to go on sale from 2018; shares 1.8-litre engine with Alpine A110 Coupe

Renault has unveiled the all-new Megane RS hot hatchback at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show. The car appears more attractive looking and more powerful than its predecessor and it will go on sale from mid 2018. The new Renault Megane RS is expected to be pried at £30,000 (Rs. 25.50 lakh).

As the performance focused hot hatchback has been unveiled, it gets a fluid design and the French automaker claims it will help the car to achieved better aerodynamic efficiency. Up front, all-new Renault Megane RS gets sharp headlamps with twin squarish shaped LED projector lamps along with sleek C shaped integrated LED daytime running lights. The headlamps are connected with a V shaped front grille incorporating a glossy black trim on top and a bold black mesh pattern.

The front bumper appears very sculpted looking and there is a wide air intake flanked by large air dams at both ends with F1-inspired chequered flag LED lights and a horizontally positioned carbon fibre trim. The car will be available with 18-inch and 19-inch alloy wheel options with sporty design. The smooth side profile along with subtly flared fenders help the car in achieving aerodynamic efficiency.

Rear of the hot hatch gets integrated roof spoiler, wide and large LED taillights a sculpted bumper along with a black diffuser incorporating an unique shaped chrome tipped exhaust. Overall, the new Renault Megane RS comes as very attractive and aggressive looking car.

Inside the cabin, new Megane RS gets a sporty feel thanks to the all-black theme with contrasting red lines and carbon fibre trims. There is a leather wrapped three-spoke multifunction steering wheel with red contrast stitching, a large instrument cluster with analog and digital display, a tab-like large 8.7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto. The door trims, gear lever also feature red trims. The sporty bucket seats will come wearing Alcantara along with carbon fibre weaving materials and it will also get aluminium pedals.

On the powertrain front, Renault Megane RS hot hatch is powered by a 1.8-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine that also works in the new Alpine A110 coupe. This engine is capable of churning out 276 bhp of peak power and 390 Nm of impressive torque output as well. The other performance details of the new Megane RS are yet to be disclosed. There will be five different driving modes that are Comfort, Normal, Sport, Race and Person. Transmission options will include a 6-speed manual gearbox and a DCT as well.
