The Kwid EV production version has been spotted for the first time in China and it is expected to come with 250 km of range
Renault commenced road testing of the production model of Kwid EV in China. The EV variant retains the same design of the regular Kwid but the front gets a new bumper with redesigned headlamps and grille, which is closed on the EV variant. The rear also comes with some changes like new bumper and tail lamps.
The exterior might get some new graphics to make it stand out from the regular model. The interior is likely to get a new instrument cluster and new upholstery. We can expect the EV variant to come with features like touch screen infotainment system, power windows, rear camera with parking sensors, alloy wheels and more.
The specification of the Kwid EV is not yet revealed but some reports suggest that the production model could come with 250 km of range. Renault is developing new Kwid EV with its Chinese partner Dongfeng and the joint venture between both companies is called the e-GT New Energy Automotive company.
The Kwid EV will be manufactured at the Dongfeng plant of Shiyan in Central China and the production capacity of the plant in 1,20,000 units. The production model of the Kwid is expected to be introduced by the end of this year or early 2020. Renault might introduce the Kwid EV in India by 2022 and it is likely to be priced around 6 lakh.
The regular version of Kwid is not doing very well in the Indian market as the hatchback is registering negative growth each month. The company introduced a minor update last year and it didn’t improve sales. Renault recently updated the features list of Kwid as all variant now comes with a driver side airbag, seat belt reminder and ABS with EBD as standard.
The MediaNAV touchscreen infotainment system available on earlier models has been updated with new MediaNav Evolution, which comes with connectivity options like Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The company is expected to introduce a refreshed version of the Kwid later this year.
