The images of the production-spec Kia EV5 have been leaked online ahead of its global unveil on 25th August; The design is very close to its concept form

Kia is actively working to expand its electric vehicle line-up globally. The EV5 is one of the top priority models for the Korean carmaker and it was set for a global debut on August 25 at the Chengdu Motor Show in China. However, all the key details along with the final production design have already been leaked online via an official filing in the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT). Let’s have a look at the details of the upcoming Kia EV5 electric SUV.

Taking a brief look at the leaked images of the Kia EV5, you will quickly realize that it looks like a smaller version of the brand’s flagship electric SUV, the EV9. While the design doesn’t stray too far away from the concept version, there are a slew of notable changes like redesigned headlamps and tail lamps, more prominent charging ports, flush door handles and more.

Apart from this, the front profile sports the typical Tiger Nose design pattern and the alloy wheels size has been reduced from the concept version. In terms of dimensions, the EV5 measures 4,615 mm long, 1,875 mm wide and 1,715 mm in height with a wheelbase of 2,750 mm.

The kerb weight of the electric SUV stands at 1,870 kg. Under the hood, the EV5 will be powered by a single electric motor putting out 218 bhp and 310 Nm of peak torque with an electronically limited top speed of 185 kmph. The dual-motor AWD version could debut at a later stage.

As per the media reports, the battery pack capacity is expected to be around 82kWh and it will use the NMC construction for the global model with a claimed range of around 600 kilometres on a single charge. On the other hand, the Chinese spec model will make use of BYD’s LPF Blade battery.

As for its local launch is concerned, there are very less chances that EV5 will hit the Indian shores anytime soon as the EV9 is currently lined up for a debut next year i.e. 2024.
