Nissan appears to have begun a new project that would spawn a full electric crossover in the future. The conceptual study in which the new EV will be based on is expected to make global premiere sometime later this year. Christened as the Vmotion 3.0, it will obviously have design inspirations taken from its previous version, the Vmotion 2.0.

The Japanese automakers are making record investments in connected technologies, self driving, artificial intelligence and robotics this fiscal. They are estimated to spend a record $25.5 billion on research and development in the FY2017 in order to have an upper hand in the war of future electric mobility.

Nissan Vmotion 2.0 Electric Sedan ConceptDespite falling behind Volkswagen and enduring losses, the second largest auto brand in the world, Toyota is spending over a trillion yen for the fourth consecutive years towards R&D. Nissan is no exception to that high-spending list and the upcoming concept we are talking about here will target bringing out a better mode of electrification.

Nissan’s global design chief Alfonso Albaisa stated that the all-new concept will make its debut following the launch of the new generation Leaf EV hatchback. The latter in its new avatar is expected to enter Indian market sometime next year.

Nissan Vmotion 2.0 Electric Sedan Concept 3The Vmotion concept will signal at an entirely new beginning in the road map towards Nissan’s electric aspirations. Daniele Schillaci, Nissan’s executive vice president for zero emissions, said that his company is clearly focusing on an electric crossover because it’s part of the DNA. It will come equipped with the latest Nissan Intelligent Mobility features.

The Vmotion 3.0 comes just months after the 2.0 was revealed at Detroit back in January. It was a family sedan which Nissan described to have “emotional geometry”. The electric Vmotion 3.0 will leverage the design opportunities the electric drivetrain packaging allows and might be experimented with new aerodynamic body shapes, low-resistance tyres and flat flooring.
