Next generation Maruti Suzuki Celerio could get modern equipment such as touchscreen infotainment while sticking by the upcoming safety standards

The Celerio small hatchback has been a top-seller for Maruti Suzuki ever since it entered the market at the 2014 Auto Expo with an affordable AMT transmission. It played a major role in the popularity of the two-pedal technology among masses, before the brand expanded the AMT’s presence due to demand.

By the end of last year, more than 3 lakh units of Celerio were already on the road as people preferred it as a slightly convenient alternative over the Alto 800. Currently priced between Rs. 4.35 lakh and Rs. 5.54 lakh (ex-showroom), the Celerio received a X range, amidst a few other special editions during its lifespan to keep the momentum going.

A new generation of the evolved Celerio was said to be in the works and it could be benefitted from the Suzuki-Toyota partnership with an electric powertrain probably arriving in 2021. It stays as a projected speculation for long and since the Wagon R is going to be the first all-electric model from Maruti Suzuki due in 2020, it could become legit after all.

The next generation Maruti Suzuki Celerio could be designed to compete against the likes of upcoming Hyundai Santro, Tata Tiago and Renault Kwid in mind as the segment has grown immensely in recent years. It could mean the new Celerio will have bigger dimensions with a more appealing styling.

Going by the funky Concept Future S released at this year’s Auto Expo, Maruti Suzuki appears to be taking the visual game to the next level in its upcoming products. The interior is also expected to be roomier along with a number of modern connectivity options including touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.

Maruti Suzuki may use the electric drivetrain from Wagon R EV if it decides to electrify the Celerio. Moreover, the price range between Rs. 4 lakh and Rs. 6.5 lakh will only get tougher in the coming years due to increased competition, and Maruti Suzuki will do everything to continue its dominance. With stringent safety standards coming into effect, it will have more standard safety features as well.
