Mahindra Scorpio, Mahindra Thar and the Mahindra XUV500 are expected to get next-generation versions by late next year

Mahindra isn’t going to stop at the introduction of the XUV300, Alturas G4, and Marazzo. In the next fiscal, the company is planning to launch three new vehicles, which will include new-generation versions of the Mahindra Scorpio, Mahindra Thar and Mahindra XUV500.

It is being said that the all-new versions Mahindra Scorpio, Thar and XUV500 will be powered by a all new 2.0-litre diesel engine that will be BSVI-compliant and will be available in 3 power tunes. Of these, the mid-level version will pump out a maximum power of 160 hp and will be used in the Mahindra Scorpio.

The new 2.0-litre diesel engine, which will be used to power the new Mahindra Scorpio, XUV500 and Thar, will be as much as 80 kg lighter than the current 2.2-litre mHawk series engine. The transmission options for the new SUV will include a 6-speed manual and an automatic unit. An optional 4WD is also likely to be on offer.

The new Mahindra Scorpio will be the second all-new vehicle that will be conceptualized at the Mahindra North American Technical Centre (MNATC). The research and development will take place at the Mahindra Research Valley, in Chennai. The new model will be sold in many international markets.

Unlike the next-gen Mahindra XUV500, which will be seen sharing its platform with the Ford C-SUV, the new generation Mahindra Scorpio will be based on an updated version of the current SUV’s architecture.

Dr Pawan Goenka, Managing Director, Mahindra & Mahindra, has already said that his company has planned to carry over the rugged design traits of the current version to the new Mahindra Scorpio. This means that you can expect the new model to look modern while looking bold and macho.
