Next-gen Mahindra Scorpio will be an all-new model that will sit on a more robust platform, will have a BSVI-compliant more powerful 2.0-litre engine
The Next-Gen Mahindra Scorpio Codenamed as Z101 has been spied testing for the first time in India and the image suggests that the new model could have a lower roofline than the present generation model. The front-end of 2020 Scorpio will likely carry the typical 7-slat grille while the headlamps will be wraparound units.
The test unit doesn’t seem to have a hood scoop while the flared wheel arches and a raked rear windshield should give it a dynamic appearance. Powering the Upcoming New Mahindra Scorpio will be a BSVI-compliant 2.0-litre diesel engine. The same engine will be available in three states of tune, which will enable its usage in many other models, too.
The new engine will be 80 kg lighter than the Scorpio’s 2.2-litre mHawk motor and should offer more torque. Transmission duties will be courtesy of a 6-speed manual and an automatic unit. A four-wheel-drive option should be offered.
After the Mahindra Marazzo, the 2020 Mahindra Scorpio will become the second model to be co-developed by the Mahindra North American Technical Centre (MNATC) the Mahindra Research Valley. The new model will be exported to several markets around the globe, which means one can expect a good build quality, modern features, and a range of safety features.
The 2020 Mahindra Scorpio will be underpinned on an updated version of the current model’s architecture. The usage of the updated platform will lead to better dynamics and a higher safety.
While the 2.0-litre engine will be available in the next-gen XUV500, albeit in a different state of tune, the platform for the next XUV500 will come from the new Ford C-SUV that will sit between the EcoSport and the Endeavour.
The company has previously hinted that the 2020 Mahindra Scorpio will have all the rugged design traits of the current model, while its design will be modern enough to appeal to the global audience. This should help it find decent traction abroad.
