The sales numbers of June 2019 are out and they are no short of fascinating, especially in the compact SUV segment, one of the most competitive and fastest growing segments. As per the data, the newly launched Hyundai Venue almost toppled the segment leader Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, while the other new entrant – Mahindra XUV300 came third, leaving behind some of the established compact SUVs.

The biggest setback was suffered by Ford Ecosport, the small SUV from the American car manufacturer that started the Compact SUV culture in India back in 2013. Ford Ecosport is no more the preferred choice of SUVs buyers in the domestic market as per the data.

Ford Ecosport is ranked fifth in the June 2019 sales clocking 3,254 units as opposed to 4,007 units in June 2018, a 19 percent decline. The Ford Ecosport was out beaten by Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza at the first spot with 8,871 units clocked in June 2019 as opposed to 10,713 units in June 2018, a 17 percent drop.

Next came the Hyundai Venue with 8,763 units sold, followed by Mahindra XUV300 with 4,769 units. There’s no comparative analysis as both the cars are a new entry to the list and were launched only recently. Tata’s Nexon also outsold the Ford Ecosport with 4,170 units on the clock.

Only Honda WR-V and Mahindra TUV300 had registered lower sales as compared to Ecosport with 1,268 and 1,210 units sold respectively.

Ford recently updated the Ecosport by introducing the Thunder Edition, a visual update over the regular model. Not only this, Ford keeps on adding special edition models time and again to lure the buyers, but it seems things are not working in favour of the brand.
