After making world debut and causing stir across the globe, the new generation Suzuki Jimny has landed in Indonesia at GIIAS 2018. The latest generation Jimny is a serious off-roader with ladder frame construction, four-wheel drive with low-range gearbox and high-profile tyres.
The new Suzuki Jimny continues to have a retro design theme with five-slat front grille, circular headlamps, minimalist front bumper, prominent air intake, flared wheel arches with dark plastic cladding, etc.
The modern off-road SUV has a blocky design for the dashboard with separate gauge housings. It boasts latest touchscreen infotainment, round-shaped air con vents and toggle switches among others. The important features available are Dual Sensor Brake Support (DSBS), lane departure warning and weaving alert function, high beam assist and traffic sign recognition.
In its home market, the new Jimny uses a 0.66-litre R06A turbo engine and in other foreign countries a 1.5-litre K15B engine replaces the 1.3-litre unit with 100 PS maximum power at 6,000 rpm and 130 Nm peak torque delivered at 4,000 rpm – 17 PS and 20 Nm more than its predecessor. The new engine is 15 percent lighter and more efficient as well as giving “stronger torque output”.
It is mated to a five-speed manual or a four-speed automatic that are optimized with reduced friction and improved gear ratios to provide more efficiency. In the new Jimny, Suzuki’s Allgrip Pro AWD system has been improved and it gets a low-range transfer gear and three driving modes – 2H (2WD-high gear), 4H (4WD-high gear), and 4L (4WD-low gear).
It can be engaged with the help of a shift lever mounted on the transfer case. The AWD also gains LSD traction control. The Jimny has ground clearance of 210 mm while the approach angle is at 37 degrees and the departure angle at 49 degrees.The mini SUV’s persona of a capable off-roader is undeniable and its modern character makes it a potential lifestyle product for India in the near future.
