New generation Suzuki Jimny manufacturing in India; it is based on the Maruti-Suzuki Baleno’s lightweight platform
Maruti Suzuki will manufacture the new generation Suzuki Jimny at its new Gujarat plant. The plant will strt working from 2017. The Indo Japanese automaker will manufacture the Baleno and new Swift Dzire in the plant. Later this decade the new generation Jimny will also enter the production in the plant.
The new generation Suzuki Jimny is expected to launch before 2020. Suzuki will launch the car in markets like Brazil, Indonesia and several countries in Europe as well. The three door SUV will share the platform with Maruti Suzuki Baleno. The lightweight improved platform will enhance the car with better handling, more rigidity and improved fuel economy as well.
We also hope, the Japanese automaker will consider launching a four door version of Jimny to the Indian market. We Indians are known for our affection for SUVs. The Maruti Suzuki Vitara Breza, which has been launched few months back has already garnered immense attention and success as well. Therefore Suzuki can take encouragement from the Vitara Brezza’s success. It can be the perfect successor of the long standing iconic Gypsy.
The next generation Suzuki Jimny will get power from a 1.0 litre Boosterjet petrol engine. This engine is already available under the hood of the export spec Maruti Suzuki Baleno also. The engine churns out 112 PS of peak power. Also the new generation Jimny will retain the 4X4 drivetrain, which has made the car so popular. Presently the Jimny comes in a three door configuration.
Maruti Suzuki has recently taken an aggressive stance in Indian market. The company has already launched its first compact SUV Vitara Brezza. Now it is scheduled to launch a micro SUV Ignis later this year during the festive season. Also the car maker plans to launch several other models like a hot hatch based on the premium hatchback Baleno, the new generation Swift etc.
