Stellantis has confirmed that the new-gen Jeep Compass will be underpinned by the STLA Medium architecture

Jeep has been selling the Compass in the international markets since 2007 and it received a new generation in 2016. The Compass was rolled out of Ranjagaon facility near Pune for the first time in July 2017 for the domestic market and it acts as a production hub for the global RHD markets as well emphasising its significance for Stellantis.

The second-generation Jeep Compass has received regular updates over the years with the addition of new variants, special editions and variant rejigs. The 2024 MY Compass for Europe has gained updated Level 2 ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) and is available only in e-Hybrid and 4Xe plug-in hybrid powertrain options.

The seven-seater derivative of the Compass, the Meridian, is also on sale in the Indian market. The all-new version of the Compass is currently under development and it will be produced at the Melfi plant in Italy. Stellantis has confirmed that the SUV will be underpinned by the STLA Medium architecture and it will be sold in hybrid and all-electric powertrains (at least in some markets).

The manufacturing unit can produce 1,600 cars per day but it is currently running only half of its capacity. The Jeep Compass along with the Jeep Renegade and the Fiat 500X are manufactured there presently. However, the Renegade and 500X will be discontinued in 2024 and the new generation Compass will be produced at the plant from 2025.

The plans for the next-gen Renegade and 500X are yet to be divulged though. The new DS9 and DS7 will also be produced at the Melfi plant and nameplates from Lancia and Opel will also sit on the new architecture. It is worth noting that the Peugeot e-3008 is the first model to sit on the STLA Medium architecture.

Besides India and Italy, the current generation Jeep Compass is manufactured in Pernambuco (Brazil) and Toluca (Mexico). Considering that the Compass EV won’t be made in the United States, it won’t qualify for federal incentives there. In India, the Compass is equipped with a 2.0L diesel engine and it may continue to be the case upon the arrival of the all-new model but the launch timeline is not known yet.
