Suzuki has confirmed that a new 1.2L three-cylinder NA Z12E petrol engine will replace the K12C unit in Japan and it may well be the case in India too

The fourth generation Suzuki Swift made its global debut at the Japan Mobility Show 2023 in its concept form in Tokyo. Since then, the details and pictures of the production model, which is not too different from the supposed concept, have emerged online for the Japanese market. India will be one of the first markets to get the new hatch considering its popularity here.

While the exterior has taken an evolutionary approach to design, the interior has gained a host of new features and technologies, and we will have to wait and see which all will be offered in India. The 2024 Suzuki Swift gets safety tech such as Dual Sensor Brake Support II (collision mitigation braking), Adaptive High Beam System and Driver Monitoring System.

The Japanese auto major has confirmed that a new 1.2L three-cylinder NA Z12E petrol engine will replace the K12C unit and it will be incorporated with a mild hybrid system for improved fuel efficiency. The mild hybrid technology will be available in the MZ and MX trims while the XG grade is a non-hybrid and just like the others, it will only get CVT transmission.

In addition, all three variants will be sold with a four-wheel-drive system as standard. The JDM-spec new Swift will also come with the latest Suzuki Connect telematics and an EPB (Electric Parking Brake). The new generation Swift will be available in a total of 13 colour schemes (nine single-tone and four two-tone).

The mono-tone shades are Frontier Blue Pearl Metallic, Cool Yellow Metallic, Burning Red Pearl Metallic, Super Black Pearl, Star Silver Metallic, Flame Orange Pearl Metallic, Caravan Ivory Pearl Metallic, Pure White Pearl and Premium Silver Metallic. The dual-tone paint schemes are blue with black roof, red with black roof, yellow with black roof, and white with black roof.

The road testing of the all-new Swift has commenced on Indian roads and the compact hatchback is expected to launch sometime early next year. The aforementioned Z series engine could replace the existing K series 1.2L three-pot unit in India as well or it may be offered in the mid- and top-level trims initially. It looks like the much anticipated strong hybrid powertrain isn’t coming any time soon.
