Maruti Suzuki’s popular tallboy hatchback WagonR has crossed 2 million sales milestone. Launched in 1999, this hatchback became popular in very short span and for last 10 years, it has been the one of the top five bestselling cars in the country. Now, with this new achievement, WagonR becomes the third Maruti car to enter the league of 2 million sales achievers that are Maruti 800 and Alto.

In 2004, Maruti Suzuki WagonR registered its 1 lakh cumulative sales in just five years after launch. The car reached 1 million mark in 2011. To reach the 1.5 million mark it took three years and in less than that, the popular model crossed another half a million mark. The Indo-Japanese automaker introduced several design updates and technology upgrades as well to the WagonR. It garnered positive response and immense popularity from the buyers thanks to the practical design, efficient pricing and affordable pricing.

Maruti Suzuki’s impressive retail network and after sales service have played crucial role in making the WagonR a popular product. Currently, the car comes with some essential safety features like ABS, dual airbags. The interior dons an upmarket stance that appeals the customers. Also, the introduction of Maruti Suzuki’s Auto Gear Shift (AGS) technology has helped it in becoming an attractive product for the buyers who want a value for money car at around Rs. 5 lakh.

Maruti Suzuki WagonR is currently available in both petrol and CNG fuel options. The car comes priced between Rs. 4.10 lakh and Rs. 5.31 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi). Transmission options for the hatchback include a manual gearbox alongside the AGS.

Maruti Suzuki says, Around 45% WagonR customers bought this model as their first car and around 20% of its customers have purchased the model multiple times. Also, the AGS equipped variants attribute to around 16% of the total sales of WagonR and CNG variants attribute to 20% of the total sales.
