40% of Maruti Suzuki Swift Sold in India Last Month Were Diesel

Maruti Suzuki Swift sold 16,532 units in May 2017, comprising 10,053 units of petrol and 6,479 of diesel

Widely popular Maruti Suzuki hatchback Swift has sold impressive 16,532 units in May 2017 comprising 10,053 units of petrol model and 6,479 units of diesel variants. This means 60% of the Swift sales were attributed to the petrol variants, clearly indicating the shifting trend of Indian buyers towards the petrol powered cars from diesel models.

Diesel powered Swift sold only 6,479 units compared to more than 10k units of petrol model. Not only, Swift, but Maruti’s premium hatchback Baleno’s May 2017 sales result also showed the similar trend of increasing sales volume of petrol model. Swift has been one of the bestselling models from the Indo-Japanese brand for quite long time, available in both petrol and diesel models.

The petrol model draws power from 1.2-litre K-Series VVT engine capable of kicking out 84.3 PS of peak power at 6000 rpm and 115 Nm of peak torque at 4,000 rpm. The diesel model gets a Fiat-sourced 1.3-litre DDiS motor under the hood capable of pumping out 75 PS of peak power at 4,000 rpm and 190 Nm of peak torque at 2,000 rpm. Transmission duty is done by a 5-speed manual gearbox in both petrol and diesel models.

Currently Maruti Suzuki is gearing up to launch the new generation Swift hatchback that appears with significant design change and heavily updated interior as well. The new generation hatchback is expected to be displayed at the 2018 New Delhi Auto Expo in February ahead of its launch here.

The 2018 Maruti Suzuki Swift sports a completely refreshed design language incorporating a much sportier and stylish look compared to the current model. It gets new sharper headlamps with projector lamps and LED daytime running lights, new larger radiator grille, repositioned rear passenger door handlebar, updated taillights. Interior of the hatch gets new steering wheels, dual-pod instrument cluster and a touchscreen infotainment system at centre console with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
