Maruti Suzuki to add a petrol engine option to the Vitara Brezza soon, the company already announced to stop the production of diesel cars from next year

Maruti Suzuki launched the all-new Brezza in the Indian market in 2016, and since then, there have been reports suggesting the launch of a petrol version of the sub-4m compact SUV in the Indian market. The Vitara Brezza was launched in the market with only the 1.3-litre diesel engine with a 5-speed manual transmission. Later, Maruti Suzuki added a 5-speed AMT automatic transmission to the Brezza too. However, the car is yet to get a petrol engine option.

Nonetheless, Maruti Suzuki has announced that it will pull the plug from the diesel cars when the BS-VI norms are implemented in the Indian market next year, which means that all the diesel-powered vehicles from the brand will be ceased. This will affect the only diesel-powered models like Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza and the Maruti Suzuki S-Cross.

It should be noted that Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza will soon get the 1.5-litre petrol engine that is currently available with the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz and the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga. Even though the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza is a sub-4m car and needs to get a petrol engine that is lower than the 1.2-litre capacity to get the tax benefits, Maruti will choose the other, more powerful engine.

The 1.2-litre K-Series engine from the brand will prove to be very underpowered for the Brezza, which is why the 1.5-litre engine will be launched. It is also possible that Maruti Suzuki will use the newly launched 1.2-litre DualJet engine that made a debut in the Maruti Suzuki Baleno recently.

The 1.5-litre petrol engine produces a maximum of 104 PS and 138 Nm while the 1.2-litre DualJet engine produces a maximum of 90 PS. The current 1.3-litre diesel engine option also produces a maximum of 90 PS and 200 Nm.

Maruti may launch both the engines to give a broader range of options to the customers. Since the diesel-powered Brezza will be discontinued soon, Maruti is expected to launch the petrol-powered Brezza by the festive season this year.
