Maruti Suzuki posted total sales of 1,61,497 units in May 2018 at a YoY growth of 24 percent compared to the same month last year

Maruti Suzuki is the largest car manufacturer in India and the company is leading in almost all the segments they are present which is why the Indo-Japanese manufacturer has 54 percent market share in May 2018. Even though Hyundai is giving touch competition for Maruti Suzuki in premium segments they are not able to match them in other volume segments. In this article, we take a closer look at how Maruti Suzuki’s market share reached 54 percent last month.

Let’s start with entry level model as Alto has been the favourite choice of four wheels for Indians as it is easily affordable for most of the middle class family as the company priced the model very well along with efficient engines and low cost maintenance helped the Alto to be the number one, but it has changed in recent times which we will discuss later.

The sales momentum is expected to continue in coming years as Maruti is working on next generation of Alto which will be much better than current model with long list of features to take on the competition.

Then Wagon R is the next hatchback from Maruti which is consistently present in the top 10 sales chart of every month. The tall boy design and tons of space along with frugal engines and VFM pricing helped Wagon R to climb up to the top easily. The closest competitor of Wagon R is Celerio which is again a Maruti product.

Even though Maruti priced Ignis slightly higher, the new model is still able to grab good numbers as the company has sold 4,132 units last month compared to Ford Freestyle at 3,027 units.

Maruti Suzuki Swift has always been one of the popular hatchbacks in India and the new generation model which debuted earlier this year is bringing lots of volumes. Last month, Maruti sold 19,208 units which are significantly higher than Hyundai Grand i10 which is in second place with 10,664 units. The sales will further improve once the new Gujarat plant goes mainstream with all the assembly lines.

Even though initially, Baleno couldn’t match Elite i20, the impressive space along with long list of features and VFM pricing helped the Baleno to climb back to top position in premium hatchback segment. Maruti Suzuki sold 19,388 units in May 2018 as compared to 10,664 units of Elite i20.

Since the introduction of new generation Dzire, the new model has climbed to top position in the Indian market. Last month, Maruti sold 24,365 units of Dzire when compared to Honda Amaze which sold just 9789 units and this shows how popular new Dzire in the Indian market. The sales are expected to continue as the model is new.

2017 new maruti dzire review-28The C-Segment is one of the most growing segments in the country and Ciaz is leading the sales chart with 4,024 units sold last month compared to 3,801 units of Verna. Maruti is expected to introduce an update for Ciaz in coming months with new engines and updated features which will help the sedan to improve sales further.

Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza is the best selling compact SUV in India since its introduction. The SUV design along with premium features and efficient engines with lots of customization helped the Brezza to be a favourite among customers. The company has sold 15,629 units last month which is thrice compared to the second best selling model in compact SUV segment.

Even though initially the premium pricing didn’t help the crossover, the company quickly dropped the price to maintain decent sales. The recent update helped S-Cross to improve its sales numbers as the company sold 4,610 units last compared to just 1,962 units of Honda WR-V.

Maruti Suzuki Ertiga is leading the entry level MPV segment and the sales are coming down as the current model will be replaced by the end of this year. But still Maruti sold 4,872 units of Ertiga compared to just 462 units of Honda Mobilio. The sales will improve once the new generation model hit the market. With the strong performance of each model in portfolio helped the company to get 54 percent share in Indian market.
