Maruti Suzuki Ertiga Cross will be retailed through Nexa premium outlets and it will have middle row captain seat arrangement
We broke out the news that Maruti Suzuki is preparing to unleash a six-seater version of the recently launched second-generation Ertiga MPV in India. It will go on sale in the coming weeks in the domestic market, and it will be more upmarket than the standard Ertiga.
The seven-seater Ertiga in its latest avatar is based on the lightweight Heartect platform with bigger proportions than the previous model that served the purpose for more than six years in India, and the price ranges between Rs. 7.44 lakh and Rs. 10.90 lakh (ex-showroom).
While the regular Ertiga is sold through Arena dealerships, the Cross version will be introduced at the premium Nexa outlets and it will target the likes of Mahindra Marazzo that is priced between Rs. 9.99 lakh and Rs. 13.90 lakh (ex-showroom). One of the key traits of the upcoming variant is the presence of middle row captain seats with added comfort and convenience features.
The Ertiga Cross could carry a new suffix to further differentiate itself from the regular Ertiga. It may well be ‘Across’ as Maruti Suzuki patented the name a few years ago but no concrete information has been known yet. Some of the expected features on the Ertiga Cross are leather seat upholstery, 16-inch alloy wheels with new design, tilt and telescopic steering, cruise control, LED projector headlights, auto dimming IRVM, etc.
It could also gain contrast interior stitching and new accessories are believed to be offered as well. Chances of the exterior having a sportier body kit cannot be ruled out either. No mechanical changes are expected though as the Ertiga Cross will continue to be powered by the 1.5-litre K15B four-cylinder petrol engine developing 104.7 PS at 6,000 rpm and 138 Nm at 4,400 rpm.
It is connected to either a five-speed manual or a four-speed torque converter automatic transmission. Whether the Ertiga Cross will be introduced in diesel version or not is not known.
