GST made a mixed impact on the Indian auto industry with the new universal tax system benefitting buyers across different segments

India has finally adopted the much discussed Goods and Services Tax (GST) from 1st July. This is the biggest tax reform ever made since independence in 1947. GST abolishes multiple state and central government taxes and implements an universal tax system across the country that is segmented in four different slabs, which are 5%, 12%, 18% and 28%.

Under the GST, auto industry has seen a mixed impact as some cars have become cheaper compared to their previous pricing, while others much pricier. Interestingly, as it seems, a major number of popular cars have become more affordable thanks to GST. Keeping pace with the new tax system, several automakers have already reduced pricing of their cars to pass on the benefit of the GST to the customers.

Here we bring you a number of popular Maruti cars that have become cheaper including the Alto and Swift, as the Indo-Japanese automaker has reduced pricing by up to 3%.

Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza Price after GST

Maruti Suzuki has reduced the pricing of its entire range by 3% to pass on the benefit of the GST to the customers. This makes the cars from already most popular and bestselling brand more appealing. The Vitara Brezza that was launched in India last year has earned the feat of becoming the top selling utility vehicle in the country. Under the GST, this compact SUV comes priced between Rs. 7.22 lakh and Rs. 9 lakh compared to its pre-GST pricing of 7.26 lakh and Rs. 9.66 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi).

Maruti Suzuki Dzire Price after GST

Maruti Suzuki launched the new Dzire just a few weeks ago and this has garnered much positive attention from the buyers thanks to its completely revised interesting design and upmarket features. The compact sedan has also received slight change in its pricing thanks to the GST. Under the new tax system, it comes priced between Rs. 5.45 lakh and Rs. 9.41 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi), compared to its pre GST pricing.

Maruti Suzuki Baleno Price after GST

Currently the bestselling premium hatchback in the country, Maruti Suzuki Baleno has grabbed success within very short span after launch in the country. While the regular Baleno has received price cut up to Rs. 2,000, the performance oriented Baleno RS has received price slash by Rs. 32,000, making the premium hatchback more affordable and appealing. It comes with a revised pricing range of Rs. 5.26 lakh and Rs. 8.42 lakh, while the Baleno RS is priced at Rs. 8.37 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi).

Maruti Suzuki Swift Price after GST

One of the bestselling products from the Indo-Japanese car brand, Maruti Suzuki Swift has been a long standing product in the country with consistent success. It has received a price deduction up to Rs. 1,000 to pass on the GST benefit to the customers. Under the new tax structure, this popular hatchback comes priced between Rs. 4.79 lakh and Rs. 7.46 lakh compared to its pre-GST pricing of Rs. 4.80 lakh – Rs. 7.46 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi).

Maruti Suzuki Ertiga Price after GST

Maruti Suzuki Ertiga has received mixed impact due to the GST. While the petrol models have become cheaper by up to Rs. 7,000 thanks to the new tax system, the diesel SHVS model has become dearer by up to Rs. 1.06 lakh. This happened as the Indian government has slapped the hybrid cars with 43% of total tax amount comprising 15% cess over and above the 28% GST. Currently, this popular MPV is priced between Rs. 6.15 lakh and Rs. 10.44 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi).

Maruti Suzuki Ciaz Price after GST

Maruti Suzuki Ciaz is the bestselling model in the competitive midsize sedan segment. It has become the leader in its own segment by beating Honda City, Hyundai Verna and Volkswagen Vento. Under the GST, it has become mixed impact, as the petrol model has become cheaper by up to Rs. 7,000 compared to pre-GST pricing. On the other hand, the diesel SHVS model has become pricier by up to Rs. 92,000 as government has withdrawn the subsidy under FAME scheme and taxed it with 43% of total tax incidence.

Maruti Suzuki Alto Price after GST

The number one car in terms of sales volume and also the favourite among the entry level customers, Maruti Suzuki Alto has just achieved the feat of crossing 1 lakh sales mark in first five months of 2017. Available in two different models – Alto 800 and Alto K10, it has become cheaper by up to Rs. 6,000 thanks to GST. Currently, the Alto 800 is priced between Rs. 2.46 and Rs. 3.70 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi). The Alto K10 is priced between Rs. 3.29 lakh and Rs. 4.15 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi).

Maruti Suzuki Celerio Price after GST

Maruti Suzuki’s another popular product in the small hatchback segment is the Celerio that has earned positive response with its efficiency, practicality and also because of the Auto Gear Shift (AGS) technology. Under the new tax structure of GST, the Celerio has become cheaper by up to Rs. 2,000 as India’s number one car manufacturer has reduced pricing of the cars across entire portfolio by 3%. Currently, the Celerio is available priced between Rs. 4.03 lakh and Rs. 5.23 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi) compared to the pre-GST pricing of Rs. 4.04 lakh – Rs. 5.25 lakh.

Maruti Suzuki Ignis Price after GST

A very exciting product from the automaker is the Maruti Suzuki Ignis that is sold through the company’s premium retail chain Nexa. The car has received price cut thanks to GST. It has become cheaper by up to Rs. 10,000 thanks to the new tax structure implemented across the country from 1st April, 2017. Currently, it is available priced between Rs. 4.50 lakh and Rs. 7.70 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi), compared to its pre-GST pricing of Rs. 4.59 lakh and Rs. 7.80 lakh.
