The XUV300 is expected to become the best-seller for Mahindra in the coming months by overtaking Bolero
Mahindra & Mahinda was the only manufacturer to post positive sales growth in the whole of the car industry in June 2019. Driven by the good volume figures of the recently launched products, the largest passenger UV maker in the country registered a total of 17,762 units as against 16,454 units during the same month in 2018 with 8 per cent sales surge.
The Bolero led the sales charts for the brand as the workhorse gathered 5,118 units last month as against 6,229 units during the corresponding month in 2018 with 18 per cent de-growth. The XUV300 was the second most sold vehicle within the domestic portfolio with 4,769 units, as it beat Scorpio nearly 1,700 units in June 2019.
It must be noted that the sub-four-metre SUV has been maintaining consistent sales since its market debut in the middle of February 2019. The XUV300 was quick to get on to 10,000 unit sales and it dispossessed Ford EcoSport from its position all along. In June 2019, the XUV300 was the third most sold SUV in the competitive segment by finished ahead of Tata Nexon and Ford EcoSport.
The arrival of Hyundai Venue has catapulted the competition in the compact SUV space and it competes against Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza as well as Mahindra XUV300. We do reckon that the XUV300 can get to the top of the sales table within the homegrown brand’s domestic range in the coming months due to the festive season rush.
The XUV300 is the latest try at the sub-4m SUV segment as previous attempts such as TUV300 failed to deliver by a big margin. Based on the X100 architecture of SsangYong Tivoli, the XUV300 takes design inspiration from the popular Korean SUV and is powered by a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine good enough to produce 110 bhp and 200 Nm.
It is connected to a six-speed manual transmission. The 1.5-litre four-cylinder diesel engine derived from Marazzo develops 115 bhp and 300 Nm. As the petrol, it is offered with a six-speed manual gearbox as standard. Mahindra recently launched the AMT version of XUV300 in top-spec W8 and W8 (O) trims.
