Mahindra XUV300 gets the much-awaited AMT transmission in the 1.5L diesel engine and in the top-spec W8 and W8 (O) trims

Mahindra XUV300, the all-new vehicle from the brand is setting the sales chart on fire. In the month of April and May, the XUV300 sold more than the cars like Tata Nexon and Ford EcoSport and only stayed behind Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza. Launched only with the manual transmission, XUV300 has gained good success in no time.

Now, after nearly 5 months of its launch, Mahindra has introduced the AMT version of XUV300, priced at Rs. 55,000 over the standard W8 and W8(O) trims. There are no major changes in its exterior or interior except for the “Auto Shift” badge at the rear and auto gear lever in the interior. It is expected that the Mahindra will also introduce the Petrol AMT by later this year and Diesel AMT in more affordable variants like W4 and W6.

Mahindra XUV300 comes in both petrol and diesel engine options. It gets powered by a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine that develops a maximum power of 110 PS and peak torque of 200 Nm. The 1.5-litre diesel engine available with the XUV300 is the same as the Marazzo, but it is tuned differently to produce a maximum of 115 PS and peak torque of 300 Nm. Both the engine options are available with a 6-speed manual transmission as standard.

It should be noted that only Tata Nexon offers the AMT with both gasoline and diesel engine options in the sub-four-metre SUV segment. The EcoSport offers the automatic transmission only with the petrol engine option, as does the Hyundai Venue, while Maruti Suzuki only offers an AMT option with the Vitara Brezza diesel.

The price of the XUV300 MT starts at Rs 7.90 lakh while the top-end diesel variant is priced at Rs 11.99 lakh, which makes it the most expensive vehicle in the segment. The addition of the AMT automatic transmission increases the price of the particular variants by Rs. 71,000 that means the top of the line W8(O) AMT costs at Rs. 12.70 lakh (ex-showroom).

The autoSHIFT technology is only available on the W8 diesel and its optional pack W8(O). The Mahindra XUV300 AMT diesel will be available for display, test drives and immediate deliveries across all the dealerships from the brand today onwards. It is sold in three colours namely Pearl White, Aquamarine and Red Rage.

The technology is engineered by Italian automotive experts Marelli. The AMT mated 1.5-litre turbo diesel engine with eVGT (electronic variable geometry turbocharger) pumps out 116.6 PS of power and 300 Nm of torque. Mahindra says it features optimised automatic gearshifts for “peppy acceleration and overtaking manoeuvres”.

Some of the key features in the XUV300 AMT are creep function to move or reverse without throttle input, auto and manual modes, ESC (Electronic Stability Control) with HSA (Hill Start Assist), Down-hill, Kick-down Shifts and Anti-engine Stall, Drive and Reverse Lock Out, Creep disable on Door Opening to prevent vehicle movement, and Driver Information System with Gear Display.
