Mahindra XUV Aero coupe SUV concept to be revealed at Auto Expo 2016; could preview a flagship model based on XUV

The country’s largest Utility Vehicle manufacturer, Mahindra and Mahindra, has come up with a model sketch of its new SUV concept about to be broken covers at the Auto Expo 2016 scheduled for February. The motoring exhibition is turning out to be one of the biggest yet with around 80 new vehicles waiting to be launched.

As from the Mahindra’s quarter, a design image revealed today will take shape into a styling SUV concept that could trigger the way for a new flagship model in its line-up in the future. The conceptual sketch has an aggressive appearance with a shrinking roofline. It features aerodynamically shaped silhouette in accordance with its name and a coupe-ish outlook viewed from its sharper lines and an edgy rear-end.

The side profile doesn’t showcase the remaining styling on the front fascia but it has strong shoulder lines, flared wheel arches with cuts and creases stretching to the back. The bumpers are equally showy as well with horizontal tail lights housed in the various edges at the rear. A rear diffuser substitutes to the low ground-clearance of the Aero Coupe SUV concept.

It will provide substantial downforce from the low pressure air passing underneath the car and regulate the flow upon the rear exit for better cornering and handling characteristics. Speculated to be created by Indian designers, the Aero concept could offer a sneak-peak into the company’s futuristic take on the in-car connectivity.

A design studio will also be erected to offer general public a preview of what goes into the design philosophy of the SUV. If the concept is to be taken any seriously, Mahindra could go slightly up market with it and might just fancy a fair share of customers from the premium car market but then again it has SsangYong brand lives to do that purpose.

Speaking of which, the new SsangYong Tivoli premium SUV will be the centre-piece of attraction at Mahindra’s pavilion. The Mahindra TUV300 and recently launched KUV100 customised models as well as electric variants of Verito and Maxximo and the Mahindra Reva e2o with wireless charging will also be displayed at the motor show.
