The Mahindra Scorpio.e and Bolero.e are likely to be a part of Mahindra’s strategy to launch seven new electric SUVs in the Indian market by 2030

Indian automotive manufacturer Mahindra has recently announced its plan to launch electric variants of the Scorpio and Bolero SUVs. During the company’s investor presentation, Rajesh Jejurikar, Mahindra’s Executive Director and CEO (Auto and Farm Sector) said that “All ICE brands would be electrified over time”. The Scorpio and Bolero SUVs will take the ‘e’ suffix, similar to the Thar.e and XUV.e.

The brand is working to introduce seven new electric SUVs in the Indian market by 2030, as confirmed by Mahindra earlier. There are speculations that the Scorpio.e and Bolero.e will not utilize ladder-frame chassis because of challenges in making Born-EV with this platform. More details about these two upcoming electric SUVs are yet to be known.

Additionally, Mahindra revealed Thar.e concept on August 15, 2023, which is based on the brand’s modular INGLO (India GLObal) skateboard platform, codenamed P1. The Mahindra Scorpio.e and Bolero.e are likely to be built on the same platform. The P1 platform has a wheelbase of 2,775mm – 2,975mm. For the unversed, the current-gen Mahindra Bolero and Scorpio-N have a wheelbase of 2,680mm and 2,750mm, respectively.

Similar to Mahindra’s other electric SUVs, the Scorpio.e and Bolero.e are expected to be powered by the same battery packs and motors. Talking about the Thar.e concept showcased last year, it was equipped with a 109hp/135Nm front motor and a 286hp/535Nm rear motor with All-Wheel-Drive capability.

The Mahindra’s P1 platform will likely receive a 60 kWh or an 80 kWh battery pack. The 60-kWh battery could offer a WLTP range of 325 km, while the 80-kWh battery may provide around 435-450 km WLTP range. Exact mechanical details are yet to be announced by Mahindra.

In other news development, Mahindra is already working to launch the XUV.e8, XUV.e9, BE.05 electric SUVs by 2025. All these electric SUVs have been spotted testing on Indian roads for quite some time now. Additionally, the brand is planning to introduce the new-gen Bolero by 2026-27. Mahindra will also introduce U171, the next-gen ladder-frame architecture, which will be underpinning upcoming Mahindra’s pickup trucks and SUVs.
