Mahindra Scorpio X pickup truck will be powered by the second-gen mHawk diesel engine, paired with a six-speed MT or a six-speed AT upon arrival

Mahindra & Mahindra has trademarked the Scorpio X moniker and it could be used for the production version of the Global Pik Up concept which was showcased at the Mahindra Futurescape event in South Africa in August 2023. The Scorpio range comprising the Scorpio N and Scorpio Classic currently bags more bookings every month than the XUV700 and Thar.

The arrival of a lifestyle pickup truck will further bolster the range and a launch has been speculated for next year. Internally codenamed Z121, the production model will hit markets like South Africa and Australia first and is constructed on a new body-on-frame chassis, which has been designed to secure high ratings in the GNCAP and Euro NCAP crash test assessments.

It will have a lot in common with the Scorpio N including the design as the production model will be toned down compared to the concept. The homegrown manufacturer will introduce the facelifted XUV300 compact SUV, the XUV300-based electric compact SUV and the five-door Thar lifestyle off-road SUV this calendar year. The XUV700-based XUV.e8 is also bound for late 2024 or early 2025.

As for the performance, a second-generation mHawk four-cylinder turbo diesel engine made of aluminium will be used and it will be paired with a six-speed manual transmission as standard and a six-speed torque converter AT as an option.

It will offer a four-wheel-drive system as standard with shift-on-fly technology and four drive modes namely Normal, Grass/Gravel/Snow, Mud/Rut and Sand. The equipment list will comprise Level 2 ADAS, in-car connected tech, semi-automatic parking, sunroof, a touchscreen infotainment system, multiple airbags, automatic climate control and much more.

The Mahindra Scorpio X will also feature Trailer Sway Mitigation. The lifestyle pickup truck segment has not really picked up in India over the years and the Scorpio X could turn the table around and make a big impact.
