All-New Mahindra Delivery Vehicle for US Postal Service Under Development

Mahindra delivery vehicle prototype has been given a go by the US postal service, and it will take nearly a year to design, develop and deliver

Mahindra & Mahindra has bagged the contract of developing new-generation delivery vehicle prototype for the United States Postal Service (USPS). Along with five other global vehicle manufacturers, Mahindra & Mahindra has been selected to design and develop a prototype for USPS, which could be used for the department’s service in future. The prototype will need nearly a year from now on to be designed, developed and delivered.

After USPS test and evaluate the Mahindra’s vehicle prototype, the Indian automaker could be awarded contract to manufacture next-generation delivery vehicles for USPS. The proposal for this NGDV prototype for USPS was led by Mahindra’s North American Technical Centre based in Michigan. The Indian automaker submitted proposal for the NGDV prototype, which emphasized on safety, ergonomics and fuel efficiency of the vehicle.

Talking about the contract awarded to automaker, Mr. Anand Mahindra, the Chairman of Mahindra Group has said that, the company is very excited to be a part of USPS NGDV prototype program. He also stated that, this contract for USPS NGDV prototype is a strategic development for the automaker to become a global mobility player.

Mahindra has a 70-year long history of commercial vehicles, and it is using its entire expertise to develop the next-generation delivery vehicle for USPS. The company is one of the leading automaker in India, which is famous for its range of SUVs. Also, Mahindra sells several commercial and utility vehicles as well. In recent past Mahindra has taken several initiatives, which indicate toward its global aspirations.

Mahindra owns South Korea based automaker Ssangyong. It has also acquired famous Italian design house Pininfarina. Mahindra’s North American Technical Centre in Michigan works in close association with the company’s automotive teams in India, Italy and Korea. For the USPS delivery vehicle prototype as well, it will work collaboratively as expected.
