Jeep Compass Recalled In India Due To Emission Compliance

JEEP COMPASS INDIA-10

The diesel variants of the Jeep Compass powered by the 2.0-litre engine have been recalled due to the emission compliance

Jeep India has made a voluntary recall of the Compass SUV due to emission compliance. All the diesel-powered Jeep Compass built between December 18, 2017, and November 30, 2018, have been recalled. As per the circular, which was spotted at a Jeep service centre, as many as 11,002 units of the Compass were affected.

This was a silent recall, which was made in January 2019. According to the recall, the diesel engine powered Compass may exceed the Particulate Matter (PM) emissions in a certain cases. This does not affects the customer in any way and the vehicle keeps on performing in the same way.

To bring the emission number under control, the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) has to be reprogrammed with the latest software. This can be done at the dealerships through a service computer. The updated software will ensure that the PM emission meets with the emission norms. Details like how much more emission the affected vehicles produced is not known.

Also, it is not known if the software update will affect the fuel efficiency or the power output of the vehicle. Interestingly, the 2.0-litre, inline-four cylinder engine that powers the Jeep Compass diesel also powers the all-new Tata Harrier. However, the same engine produces a much lower power in the Harrier than the Compass.

Such voluntary recalls are a norm in the international markets and the manufacturers keep on doing it every now and then to keep the vehicles up to date. Earlier, Jeep recalled the Compass in India to fix the loose fasteners that could affect the operation of the airbags. In Compass, the turbo-diesel engine produces a maximum of 170 Bhp and a peak torque of 350 Nm.

It is only available with a 6-speed manual transmission but Jeep will soon launch the automatic diesel variant of the Compass in the Indian market. Jeep also offers the 1.4-litre turbocharged version of the Compass in the Indian market. It generates a maximum power of 160 Bhp and 250 Nm. Jeep Compass is the best-selling vehicle from FCA in India and is exported to many other countries from the market.
