The ever-growing popularity of the Honda Activa meant that the last two crore sales were reached in just 7 years in India
Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) has today announced that the brand Activa has created another milestone in the domestic two-wheeler industry as it has reached the three crore milestone. The best-selling scooter in India was first introduced in 2001 and it has been through six generations with each generation undergoing an evolutionary approach.
The more than two-decade journey saw the accomplishment of several milestones. In just 3 years since its debut in 2001, the Honda Activa became the undisputed leader in the scooter segment (2003-04). In addition, it crossed the 10-lakh cumulative customer milestone within the next two years as it maintained remarkable consistency.
In 2008-09, an all-new generation was introduced with a bigger 110 cc engine with an improved fuel efficiency of 15 per cent and Honda became the first brand to offer CBS with equalizer technology. Soon after, the monthly Activa sales went past the 50,000 mark. In the following years, the Activa’s sales breached the 5 million sales milestone and the monthly sales crossed the 1 lakh units mark in 2012-13.
In 2013-14, the HET technology was brought into India and in the following year, the third generation Honda Activa came in with the arrival of a 125 cc version. In 2015-16, the Honda Activa became the first scooter brand in India to achieve the one crore customer milestone as it took only 15 years to achieve this feat. The ever-growing popularity meant that the last two crore sales were reached in just 7 years.
In 2017-18, the Activa 5G was launched with a new Deluxe variant and first-in-110 cc segment features including a full LED headlamp and position lamp. Ahead of the BSVI deadline, the Japanese auto major brought in updates to its models and the 6G followed it up.
