The new generation BMW X6 is expected to go on sale early next year in India and it comes with an assortment of exterior and interior updates
The X6 is the grandaddy of them all that began the trend of crossover coupes more than a decade ago before it spread to other segments. BMW has now revealed a brand new model marking the third generation in its lifespan and it comes with several notable changes both inside and out.
The 2020 BMW X6 has a bolder exterior than the outgoing model with a more prominent kidney grille section and optionally illuminated grille can also be bought by customers. The front grille sits in the middle of sleeker headlamps and the bumper with sharp creases is brand new as well.
Other highlighting features are new LED tail lamps from the 8-Series, peculiarly sloping roofline, vents on the front fenders, new set of 19- or 20-inch wheels and ventilated rear section. The X6 has increased dimensions compared to its predecessor as it measures 4,935 mm long, 2,004 mm wide and 1,696 mm tall with wheelbase of 2,975 mm.
It is 26 mm longer, 15 mm wider and sits 6 mm lower to the ground with longer wheelbase of 42 mm. As for the interior, the 2020 BMW X6 resembles the latest X5 in design and it comes with a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, 40:20:40 split seats at the rear, etc. The bootspace stands at 1,530 litres when the rear seats are folded down.
It also gets a suite of driver assistance technologies such as Rear Collision Warning, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Speed Limit Information, Frontal Collision Warning system with Pedestrian Warning, City Collision Mitigation, Blind Spot Detection, Lane Departure Warning and optional Driving Assistance Professional package.
Other main features include Vernasca leather sport seats, Sensatec covered dashboard, four-zone climate control system, heated and cooled cup holders, panoramic glass roof with 15,000 illuminated accent points, 20-speaker Bowers & Wilkins Diamond audio, a HUD and Merino leather.
The X6 sDrive40i and xDrive40i use 3.0-litre TwinPower six-cylinder petrol engine making 335 hp and 447 Nm, and is connected to an eight-speed automatic transmission. 0-96 kmph is claimed in just 5.2 seconds and the top speed is limited to 250 kmph.
The X6 M50i gets a 4.4-litre twin-turbocharged V8 developing 523 hp and 750 Nm, and is mated to a standard AWD system. It can do 0-96 kmph in just 4.1 seconds. The X6 M50d, on the other hand, gains a 3.0-litre six-cylinder quad-turbo engine pumping out 395 and 760 Nm, and it hits 0-96 kmph in just 5.2 seconds.
The X6 xDrive30d will be sold with a 3.0-litre six-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine producing 261 hp and 620 Nm. The 2020 BMW X6 is expected to launch in India sometime early next year and can be specced with air suspension, Dynamic Handling package, Off-Road Package, etc.
