2016 Delhi Auto Expo : All New Hyundai Sub-4M SUV Carlino Concept Unveiled, Production version to launch later this year
The Hyundai sub-compact SUV has been unveiled in a conceptual form at the Auto Expo 2016 here in Greater Noida today. It will rival against some strong competitors such as Ford EcoSport, Mahindra TUV300, Tata Nexon, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza and the likes in the trending segment captivating masses and especially first-time buyers. With this new sub-four metre Utility Vehicle, Hyundai fills the void that exists in its line-up and extends its SUV offering for the Indian market.
Hyundai Sub-4M ‘Carlino’ SUV will be positioned just above i20 Active crossover and below the top-selling premium Creta SUV launched last year and the Hyundai compact vehicle is based on the i20 hatchback’s flexible architecture that underpins some successful products from the South Korean manufacturer’s stable. It will be offered to the customers as a front-wheel drive model.
The Hyundai sub-compact SUV gets powered by the same engine found under the bonnet of i20 premium hatchback: The 1.2-litre Kappa Dual VTVT four-cylinder petrol engine producing 83bhp and 113Nm of torque and coupled with a five-speed manual transmission. The diesel engine option will also be similar with a 1.4-litre CRDI power unit churning out 89bhp and 219Nm of torque paired to a six-speed manual gearbox.
The new SUV is part of the country’s second largest auto manufacturer trying to stretch its wings to include five models by the end of this year between price brackets Rs. 6 lakh and Rs. 30 lakh. The all-new ‘Carlino’ has received so much attention from the media and show spectators alike. Its fluidic design will give a slightly upmarket feel at an affordable price range to shatter the competition.
