Hyundai Exter is sold with 26 safety features across all variants except for the base E and S trims making it the safety small car in India

Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) introduced the Exter a few days ago and it carries a competitive starting price of Rs. 5.99 lakh. Sold in an expansive range, the micro SUV is priced at Rs. 9.99 lakh for the range-topping model (both prices, ex-showroom). It is available in an expansive range across variants namely EX, S, SX, SX(O) and SX(O) Connect.

We drove the Hyundai Exter a few days ago and came out mightily impressed with its capabilities. Amidst being a subcompact SUV, the Exter has a good road presence with loads of practicality as it has the segment-best cabin room and bootspace. In typical Hyundai standards, it is packed with features and technologies right from the base variant.

However, what really stands out is its brimmed safety package. The five-seater is based on the same platform as the Grand i10 Nios and Aura but is said to be high on safety as it will more likely score four or five stars in the Global NCAP safety ratings sticking by the more stringent crash test protocols. It is also the only subcompact SUV featuring six airbags as standard.

The second largest car producer is offering as many as twenty-six safety features across all variant levels barring the base E and S trims and Hyundai gives the choice to option them out if the consumer requires. The standard safety kit comprises first-in-class ESC (Electronic Stability Control), VSM (Vehicle Stability Management) and HAC (Hill Assist Control).

They are accompanied by three-point seatbelts and seatbelt reminder on all seats, ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) with EBD (Electronic Brake-force Distribution), first-in-segment burglar alarm, etc. The Hyundai Exter also comes with dashcam with dual camera (another segment first feature) and TPMS (Tyre Pressure Monitoring System) (Highline).

The list does not stop there as the value for money proposition gets even better with the addition of safety tech and features such as ISOFIX child seat anchorages, headlamp escort function, reverse parking camera and sensors, automatic headlights, rear defogger, Inside rearview mirror with telematics switches (SOS, RSA, Bluelink) and ESS amongst others.

Totally, Hyundai sells the Exter with forty safety features and tech. Adding to the high practical standards is the proven engine and gearbox lineup. The SUV is frugal as well ticking all the right boxes a mass market car should have!
