The production version of Carlino Compact SUV concept has been spied in India for the first time on test

Hyundai has already confirmed the development of a sub four metre compact SUV and it will be based on Carlino concept, which was showcased at 2016 Auto Expo. The production version of Carlino Compact SUV concept has been spied in India for the first time and a similar test mule was also spotted in its home market earlier this month.

The company has finalized design of compact SUV as the test mule comes with production headlamps, grille and alloy wheels. The design appears to be different from Carlino concept, but the overall body shape has been retained and we can some design inspiration coming from Kona and Creta models.

The front gets signature hexagonal grille of Hyundai and the Compact SUV comes with split headlamp setup as LED DRLs are placed on top, while projector headlamps are positioned below it. The fog lamps are placed very low on the bumper along with a small air-dam and silver finished skid plates. The Compact SUV also comes with good ground clearance.

Hyundai has given black plastic cladding, which runs across the body for an SUV look. The side design took inspirations from Creta and the compact SUV comes with roof rails finished in silver colour along with new diamond cut alloy wheels. The rear gets LED tail lamps and a new design for the rear door.

The interior also gets a new design theme and the compact SUV will share some components with Elite i20 to reduce cost and. The infotainment screen will be placed on top of the dashboard like new i30 and it comes with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. Hyundai will pack the Compact SUV with lots of features.

The quality of materials used inside the cabin will be top notch and we can expect good interior space. The Compact SUV will be powered by same 1.4 L diesel and petrol engines from Elite i20 with option of manual and automatic transmission. The launch is expected to take place in 2019 and it will compete against Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Tata Nexon and Ford EcoSport.
