Hero MotoCorp and Delhi Police Raid Fake Spare Parts Manufacturers

70000 fake parts, counterfeit labels and packaging materials were seized in the raid at Karol Bagh Bike Market

Fake automobile spare parts business has been troubling the different automakers for quite a long time. India’s major two wheeler maker Hero MotoCorp has launched an initiative “Figt Fake, Stay Safe” with joint cooperation from Economic Offence Wing of Delhi Police to fight the fake spare parts manufacturers. Last Saturday, as a part of the initiative Hero MotoCorp and Delhi Police raided some fake spare parts manufacturers in Karol Bagh market of Delhi and seized nearly 70000 fake critical replacement spare parts, counterfeit packaging materials and labels. The raids were pursuant to the orders passed by the High Court.

The fake spare parts can compromise the safety of the vehicle and the customer as well, as these fake parts can cause a vehicle failure or even trigger a fire. Moreover it also affects on the sales of the genuine spare parts. Genuine Hero MotoCorp spare parts come with Unique Parts Identification (UPI) code, through which customers can verify the genuineness of the parts by sending the code to 9266171171 by SMS. The MRP sticker of these parts also contains many salient features like “Colour Shift Ink”, “Scratch and See”, HGP logo visibility under UV light etc. The MRP sticker also contains the Hero MotoCorp Logo in Guilloche text pattern. As per the industry estimates, the after sales market in automotive industry has a business worth around six billion American Dollar, of which nearly 30% – 35% are fake products.
