Volvo S60 Cross Country India launch by mid March; bridges the gap between customers wanting a full-sized luxury sedan with the off-roading SUV capabilities
In an exclusive interview with GaadiWaadi.com, a top company official has revealed that the Volvo S60 Cross Country sedan will be introduced for the Indian market in the middle parts of March 2016. The Volvo S60 Cross Country is the first sedan from the Swedish luxury auto maker to get a Cross Country procedure with 65 mm raised ground clearance compared to the stock model and will be offered with a full-time all-wheel drive system. The executive luxury model is for the customers who seek driving versatility from a four-door body-styled sedan with room for five occupants.
With a better rough road riding, generous bootspace of 340 litres with rear seats up and lifted suspension, the Cross Country sedan features an elegant premium cabin sourced from the standard S60 and employs a floating centre console that provides a storage space behind the climate control buttons.
The dashboard comprises of a seven-inch Volvo’s Sensus touchscreen infotainment system that brings navigation, entertainment and connectivity in one-place, accessed through voice commands and buttons. Whilst the car’s important information can be noticed from the screen, the rear-view camera allows for ease of parking with all the angles and warnings displayed.
The host of standard equipment offered in the S60 Cross Country are Sirius satellite radio, premium harman/kardon 650 watts audio system with 12 speakers, keyless drive, corner traction control with torque vectoring , eight-way power-adjustable front seats, dual-zone AC, Bluetooth audio streaming dynamic stability traction control (DSTC) and advanced stability control.
The safety features list includes whiplash protection front headrests (WHIPS), ABS, six airbags, park assist, adaptive cruise control, road sign info, lane departure warning, active high beam, high-definition thin-film transistor (TFT) screen in the instrument cluster, City Safety, collision warning with auto brake and much more. The sporty sedan has drive-your-way capabilities underlined by the high-profile 18-inch all-weather tyres and skid plates.
It gains visual upgrades from the V60 Cross Country with honeycomb inserts in the prominent front grille, C-shaped integrated LED lights with bi-xenon headlamps, glossy black mirror coverings, side scuff plates and wheel arches with black plastic trim. For some international markets, the S60 Cross Country is available as a 4WD T5 Platinum model.
It gets powered by the exclusive turbocharged 2.5-litre five-cylinder motor which is good enough to generate a power output of 250 hp at 5,400 rpm and 360 Nm of peak torque developed between a wide band of 1,800 and 4,200 rpm. The overboost function enables a power-boost for ten seconds that lifts up the torque to 400 Nm.
The engine comes mated with a six-speed Geartronic automatic transmission and helps the S60 Cross Country to sprint from standstill to 100 kmph in 6.7 seconds. Volvo could more likely opt for the 2.0-litre D4 diesel unit producing 187 bhp driving the front wheels as far as Indian market is concerned. As a half sedan and half crossover, it has no real competitors but it will cause stir in sales figures for compact luxury crossovers like Mercedes GLC, Audi Q5 and BMW X3. As a four-wheel drive model, it will challenge the best-selling Mercedes C-Class, Audi A3 and BMW 3 Series.
