Datsun finally entered the 1.0-litre variant of the popular Redi-GO small hatchback in the Indian market on June 26 as we revealed exclusively before at a price of Rs 3.57 lakh (ex-showroom, Pan India). The Redi-GO’s brand ambassador Sakshi Malik, India’s first female wrestler to win an Olympic medal, was present at the launch event.
It is in line with the commitment to offer accessible and high-value-for-money cars for aspirational “young India” according to Datsun. Its bookings had begun already for fully refundable down payment of Rs. 10,000 and the deliveries have commenced at all Nissan dealerships across the country.

The Datsun Redi-GO was launched in the domestic scenes in June last year. Since its market debut, the Japanese manufacturer has managed to sell a total of over 30,000 units making it the clear best-seller for the brand. Datsun is leveraging its good reception in the domestic market and is looking to build upon its success by launching more variants.

Moreover, Datsun would have taken note of the Kwid AMT’s recognisable sales numbers as well and we could also divulge that the AMT-equipped Redi-GO will be entering the market by October. The success of Redi-GO is also pivotal for the Nissan brand in India as it does not have a significant big sales digging product currently to brag about.

With average sales of around 2,000 examples monthly, the new variant could help Datsun to expand its product reach and seek a wider band of customers. For instance, the first-time buyers who want an affordable automatic small car.
The Intelligent Spark Automated Technology (iSAT) three-cylinder petrol engine with 67 bhp and 91 Nm, derived from the Kwid 1.0, is the exact unit with expected minor changes in fuel efficiency (23 kmpl claimed in Kwid). Courtesy of the 5 years/unlimited km scheme for Rs. 33,399, the 1,000 cc version of the RediGO will be a lot easier to live with in an affordable package.
As the battle for top-position among the AMT providers in the volume space is well and truly taking the next step, the clutchless 1.0L Redi-GO could also become successful as the similar-spec Kwid when it goes on sale at a later time this year. Can the 1.0L Redi-GO replicate the sales of the 1.0L Kwid? Have your say below!
