Datsun RediGo AMT is expected to be launched in India in October this year; the hatchback can be retro-fitted with CNG now

Datsun has just launched its latest model in India, the 1.0-litre petrol engine equipped RediGo hatchback. The automaker now reveals that this tallboy hatchback can be retro-fitted with CNG also. As Datsun India’s vice president Jerome Saigot says, if customers want to transform the petrol car into a CNG powered model, they can do that by retro fitting.

Interestingly, Datsun RediGo 1.0L rivals with the successful models like Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 and Hyundai Eon. The Alto K10 is available in both petrol and CNG options, while the Eon comes with a LPG model. Datsun also claims that retro-fitting this petrol model won’t create any technical problem. Also, the brand says that it has no plan to introduce a diesel powered RediGo.

After launching the RediGo 1.0L, Datsun is now focusing on the AMT variant of this car that is confirmed for launch in current fiscal. As we have reported, the AMT equipped RediGo is likely to be launched in October this year, during the upcoming festive season. Datsun RediGo has already garnered positive response from the buyers and an AMT will enhance its appeal further.

The RediGo shares same platform and engines with the Renault Kwid. The AMT too will be shared with the Renault Kwid 1.0L. Like the Kwid hatchback, Datsun also launched the RediGo with a 0.8-litre SCe petrol engine initially. It comes with a 5-speed manual gearbox and the newly launched 1.0L engine powered model too arrives with same 5-speed MT.

Datsun also claimed that it has sold 90,000 units in the domestic market in last three years. The RediGo made an important contribution in this sales volume alongside the other cars on offer from the brand that includes Go and Go Plus. Currently, the brand is also working on the Go Cross that was showcased as a concept model at 2016 New Delhi Auto Expo. Upon arrival, this model will lock horns with rivals like the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza and Ford EcoSport.
