The Duster Pickup was built by a Romanian coachbuilder who also worked previously on the first generation Duster

Romturingia is a Romania based coachbuilder who was responsible for building a pickup truck based on the first generation Duster SUV. The model became so popular that they ended up manufacturing almost 500 units of it which were then sold to fleet customers in the City. Now the same coachbuilder has showcased another pickup truck based on the second generation Dacia Duster at the 2018 IAA Hannover Commercial Vehicle Show.

The front profile of the Pickup truck has remained unchanged and looks identical to the standard Duster SUV. It gets the same kind of headlamps treatment and grille. However, you will notice most of the changes to the rear profile of the vehicle. The pickup truck looks completely different from the B-pillar onward; the rear door area has been cleared to make space for the cargo bed.

The entire cargo loading area has been finished in the damaged resistant material. However, the pickup truck still retains the stock taillamps and rear bumper. Besides changing the design the Duster pickup underpins the same Duster platform and thus also gets the same wheelbase as well.

The Duster based Pickup truck retains the same 1.5-liter dCi turbo diesel unit which produces around 110 horsepower (82 kilowatts) of peak power. However there also is a chance that the old motor might be replaced with the newer 1.5 dCi unit which produces slightly more power of around 115 hp (86 kW), and  260 Nm (192 lb-ft) of peak torque at 1,750 rpm.

Power will be sent to all the four wheels via a 6-speed manual or an automatic gearbox. There is no official confirmation yet whether Romturingia’s has any plans to build the Pickup truck on a large scale for the mass market as of now. However, we do feel that there could be a market for the small pickup trucks which are affordable and cheap to maintain.

Dacia also showcased an updated Duster at the Paris Motor show which received a new 1.3-liter turbo gasoline engine, and also some updates to the existing infotainment system. These changes might also be carried over to the India spec Renault Duster as well in the near future.
