Chevrolet announces price hike in India. The American auto maker has hiked its prices on models from Rs. 3,500 Rs to Rs. 51,000. This price hike has come into effect from yesterday onwards, March 9th 2016. This price hike will not affect prices of Chevrolet’s premium sedan Chevrolet Cruze. It will continue to be sold at starting price of Rs. 13.95 lakh (ex showroom, Delhi). The price rise is due to increase in cess in the union budget 2016-2017 and this will specially affect cars costing more than 10 lakh rupees.

This price hike will affect every model from the entry-level to premium segment. The Chevrolet Spark small car will be the least hit as only 3,500 rupees will be added to its regular price tag. Chevrolet Trailblazer is the most affected car of the lost as by 51000 rupees its price will be increased.

The Chevrolet Spark and Sail UVA small hatchbacks manage to sell around 700-800 units put together every month. The Sail sedan, on the other hand, is constantly being retailed for 300 units which are too far away from the segment leader Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire.

The utility vehicles in the Chevrolet line-up such as Enjoy and Tavera are selling only around 1,000 units per month which is far less compared to the competition. Also, the American car maker’s flagship sedan is enduring only less sale numbers but the introduction of the facelift has certainly done some goods for the company with the sales slowly rising up.

As Chevrolet has not been performing well across all the segments, the Union Budget 2016 threw a hefty blow whose recent couple of launches – the Chevrolet Sail sedan and Sail U-VA – failed to meet the sales figures the brand had expected but at least the new Trailblazer SUV is doing a decent tally to put the misery off a bit.
