Chevrolet Beat Activ planned for US as the certification with California Air Resources Board (CARB) has secretly been revealed

The global automotive industry has seen numerous new arrivals that are crossover versions of the existing products or a brand new product altogether. Capitalising on the craze among customers, automakers are dropping in these versatile products based on their respective global platforms that can run around cities, short trips, rural places and a bit of terrain.

They are filled with practicality and family-desirable bootspace. Chevrolet revealed the Beat Activ crossover at the Auto E xpo 2016 and it was recently spotted testing in India. The American manufacturer seems to have leaked its secret for its home market by the new Spark Activ with the California Air Resources Board (CARB) according to a report from Autoguide.

It means that the Spark Activ (Beat Activ in India) can be legally sold in the Golden State. The secret was disclosed due to the leak of a certification PDF. The company will have to get the nod from EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) to sell the new crossover in other US states but it has confirmed that the product is in the pipeline for good.

Described as the “soft-roader”, it will be based on the new generation Beat hatchback, which is Chevy’s popular model in India and could play a major role in reviving the brand’s fortunes in the domestic scenes. The Spark Activ was listed with the same 98 hp producing 1.4-litre four-pod engine found in the standard Spark and moreover GM has also trademarked the Spark Activ in the US, further emphasising the launch plans.

The front fascia of the quirky Activ has a new signature dual-port grille sitting in the centre of larger elliptical headlamps. They stretch to the front fenders while the fog lamps received roundish shape. It gets roof rails and a sloping roofline, hatchback-styled tail gate with an integrated spoiler and a sporty side profile.

The interiors composed of Chevrolet MyLink seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system and colour-coded trim with trapezoidal air vents. The engine options allowed at the Auto Expo reveal were a 1.2-litre SMARTECH Petrol and a 1.0-litre SMARTECH Diesel as the regular Beat.

The former can put out 76.8 bhp of maximum power output and 106.5 Nm of peak torque whilst the diesel version is good enough to generate 56.3 bhp and 142.5 Nm of torque. Both engines send power to the front wheels through a five-speed manual gearbox.
