Brabus Smart Fortwo Cabrio is a two-seater city hatchback with special treatments to the exterior and interior
Smart, a German automotive division of Daimler AG, is known for its ultra-compact city cars across the globe and at the 2018 Chengdu Motor Show, its popular Brabus edition of the Fortwo Cabrio has been showcased. Keen to make an impression, the Fortwo two-seater hatchback has been treated with a number of exterior and interior changes as part of the Brabus kit.
Brabus is the high-performance aftermarket tuner mainly for Mercedes-Benz, Maybach and Smart vehicles and it has introduced several cosmetic highlights. It includes the tridion safety cell, radiator trim, body panels and door mirror caps finished in special trim and customers can make their own preferences from the different packages as well.
They can choose one of two introductory packages from “smart BRABUS tailor made”: Exterior Colour Package or Interior Leather Package, before customising with additional packages and details. The tritop fabric soft top in grey can be picked from the tailor made programme, and so is the Brabus edition label in the mirror triangle.
As for the interior, accent trim parts painted in contrast finish, seats in Dinamica brilliant grey with honeycomb quilting in light blue, and dashboard in a combination of leather look/black fabric with contrast topstitching are exclusive to the Brabus edition. A number of different features are also available in LED & Sensor package, Cool & Media package, Comfort package and Stowage Space package.
Moreover, the Brabus Sports package enables special front spoiler, rear apron with rear diffuser in matt grey, performance enhancements include sports suspension by lowering vehicle by 10 mm, “Monoblock IX” alloy wheels, 3-spoke multifunction sports steering wheel in leather with shift paddles, shift lever knob in leather, leather handbrake handle, brushed stainless steel sports pedals with rubber studs, etc.
Currently in its third generation, the Smart Fortwo uses a basic 1.0-litre 70 bhp engine that can get accelerate from 0-100 kmph in 14.4 seconds. However, for better driving engagement, the more powerful 89 bhp 0.9-litre turbocharged engine can be bought instead with 0-100 kmph time of 10.4 seconds.
In the Brabus edition, the 0.9-litre turbo engine is boosted to 108 bhp and is much quicker to 100 kmph from 0 in 9.5 seconds with top speed of 166 kmph. With rear-wheel-drive layout and rear-engine configuration, the Smart Fortwo can be had with either a five-speed manual or a six-speed auto.
