Bajaj will soon introduce the updated version of the Chetak Electric which will get a bigger battery pack with a longer range and more features

Bajaj Auto revived the legendary Chetak nameplate by introducing an all-electric scooter back in the year 2020. Fast forward to the year 2023, it got a minor update in March which included a few cosmetic revisions and a mild bump in the riding range. In the latest development, it has come to light that the Indian two-wheeler manufacturer is working on a major update for the Chetak EV.

As per the reports, this update will include a larger battery pack, thereby allowing for a longer range and the feature list will also be enhanced. Let’s have a look at what to expect from the updated Bajaj Chetak Electric. For starters, the Bajaj electric scooter will come in two variants, i.e. Urbane and Premium. The Urbane will be the new variant which will be positioned below the existing Premium trim.

The top-spec Premium will be updated with a larger battery pack while the Urbane will use the mechanicals of the Premium variant. This means that in the Urbane guise, the Chetak EV will draw power from a 2.9 kWh battery pack with a claimed range of 113 kilometres on a single charge, which is slightly higher than the current iteration. With the longer range, expect the top speed to get a minor bump.

On the other hand, the updated Premium trim will reportedly get a larger 3.2 kWh battery pack, delivering an ARAI-claimed range of 126 kilometres on a single charge cycle. It will likely be paired to a 5.7 bhp BLDC electric motor. So, we will probably get improved performance and a higher top speed.

In terms of features, the Chetak EV could get features like a colour TFT digital instrument cluster with turn-by-turn navigation and smartphone connectivity. The screen size is also expected to go up.

Thanks to the added equipment, we can expect a good price increment for the Premium variant, probably in the ballpark of Rs. 10,000 over the current sticker price. Talking about the launch timeline, we expect the updated Bajaj Chetak Electric to debut by early 2024.
