Automobile Sales In India Grew By 15.12% In November 2017

Top five PV manufacturers of India sold 234,226 units in November 2017 combined; increasing utility vehicle sales helped in overall growth

Defying the general trend Indian automobile market is seeing surge in sales even after the festive season. The auto market has experienced YoY growth of 15.12% in November 2017. Top five passenger vehicle manufacturers of the country have collectively sold 234,226 units in last month which marked the double digit growth. These automakers are Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, Tata, Mahindra and Toyota.

This impressive sales surge has been helped by the low base in the year ago period after the demonetisation shock that affected business heavily across the country. Speaking about individual brands, Maruti Suzuki has seen 14.3% growth with 144,297 units in last month and 34% of the total sales have been attributed to utility vehicles. Overall, Vitara Brezza and Baleno played crucial role in the brand’s YoY growth.

India’s second biggest carmaker Hyundai registered 44,008 units in November 2017 marking a 10% growth compared to the same month last year. This success has been largely attributed to the new Verna sedan. Apart from that, i10, i20 and Creta too played major roles.

Tata Motors is experiencing amazing sales result thanks to its new products like Tiago, Tigor, Hexa and Nexon. This homegrown brand recorded 17,157 units in last month registering 35% hike in sales compared to November 2016. On the other hand, India’s biggest UV manufacturer Mahindra recorded 16,030 units in November 2017, marking a 21.45% rise in sales. The XUV500, KUV100 have played important roles in boosting sales for the brand.

Japanese auto giant Toyota too posted 12.6% sales hike as it registered 12,734 units in last month. As the brand reveals, Etios Liva, Innova Crysta and Fortuner were the sales boosting models. Apart from that, another Japanese car giant Honda posted 47.2% (11,819 units) growth led by the WR-V and Ford recorded 13.1% (7,777 units) sales hike thanks to the new EcoSport.
