August 2015 Car Sales have been positive and negative as the same side, Ford, Hyundai and Maruti gains market share by 22.5%, 20% and 8.6% respectively

The market sentiment finally seems positive and that shows in car sales. However, this success only belongs to only a few manufacturers who have introduced new products into the market. These created enough interest to make the customer go run to the showrooms and buy one. Ford, Hyundai and Maruti are the one who has taken the market always seriously and make a country specific product to rule the charts. Honda with its limited portfolio has done well last year, but this year it really heavily on Jazz only as the BRV is very far away.

2015 Hyundai Creta Front

Hyundai sold 40,505 units last month, which is a substantial increase over last year as it sold 33,750 units last year in this month. All thanks to the new Creta and Active i20 which have doing impressively well. Meanwhile, other small cars continue to do four digit sales, which continues the cash and unit flow.

Maruti Suzuki sold 106,781 units last month, which is 6.4% increase YoY as last year this month it sold 98,304 units. The increase in numbers is thanks to Ciaz, S-Cross and Celerio diesel, which seem to be doing well initially. The Ciaz Hybrid launched couple of days back with more value for money quotient and more mileage is just icing on the cake which should take Maruti even further. Good news doesn’t end there for the manufacturer as it plans to upgrade all engines with hybrid technology and next launch is Ertiga and post that its Dzire and Swift.

Honda despite the new Jazz has a lot of growth and market share this month of the year when compared last year. 16,758 were the units it sold last month and this year thanks to Mobilio and Brio not picking up sales along with average performance of Amaze has seen Honda selling 15,655 units. A 6.6% drop for the brand in India can only be revived with the help of Jazz to an extent or else BRV is set to do the magic next year.

Ford last year 6801 units and this time around, last month it sold 8331 units. A substantial increase of 22.5% has been witnessed by Ford as its new Aspire has done really well and will continue to do well. The hatchback also isn’t far away from launch will continue to post aggressive sales number once its launched before the year 2016 begins. Ecosport continues to create milestone as it has sold two lakh units in since launch.

Toyota Camry Hybrid 2015 Verdict

Toyota has been doing pretty well with its big cars as small car sales continue to dwindle. However, YoY loss of 0.5% as it sold 11,215 units last year and this year it sold 11,161 units. Camry has registered a 100% increase since last month and YoY Etios has registered a 15% increase thanks to limited editions which keep sprucing things up. New Fortuner, Innova and Vios should take even further for this brand as it has IMMENSE potential in the premium car market because the way Indian audience has treated Toyota.

Mahindra sold 13,276 units during August 2015 as against 12,899 units during August 2014 which marks a drop of 2.8%. The manufacturer has gone aggressive with its portfolio as it updated the Scorpio and XUV heavily and along with that it plans to launch TUV 300 their new vehicle which seems extremely promising. Festive season coming should deliver the kick sales that the company wants.

Tata Motors on the other hand has done a good number as it sales increased 2% over the last year as it sold 11,194 units last month, meanwhile it just sold 10,972 units last year when it comes to passenger vehicle sales only. Zest and Bolt are great products, but they seem not to catch they attention they deserve. Tata banks on coming Kite, Hexa and Compact SUV, all of which should come by late 2016.

Volkswagen continues to sway into the market slowly and steadily. A 4.6% increase has been witnessed over the last year. VW shipped out 4007 units last year and this year it sold 4191 units. Refreshed Polo and Vento are doing the job well every year. Jetta continues to keep the sales running too. Volkswagen has plans to make India specific cars and bring compact SUV’s in the market to increase its share.

Skoda continues with low sales and even with those numbers, it has managed to climb down numbers. It sold 1336 units last year and this year same month it sold 1152 units which means the growth is negative and its down by 13.8%. With only the Superb being the new car to come and no small cars in the kitty Skoda should remain pretty similar in terms of sales.

Chevrolet Beat India Recall

General Motors went down to the basement from ground floor with its sales numbers. A 46.8% sales decline as it sold 4532 units last year and this year it just managed to sell 2253 units. GM recently announced huge plans for the Indian market with India specific products such as compact sedan, suv and a hatchback based on the Chevrolet Beat.

Another person who shared the same fate as GM is Fiat. Fiat sold 646 units last month and same time last year it sold 1123 units which records a down fall 42.4%. With limited products under the hood when it comes to affordable cars, Fiat has nothing else to offer until unless it plans to get global products in India.

Nissan And Renault are brands, which are in doll drums. Both are all set to rely on their new small cars which are cheap and unique in their own way However, both exactly sold half the numbers what they posted last year. 3999 units last year and 2809 units for Nissan and Renault sold 3235 units 1569 this year. Both companies show that, Nissan is down by 29.8% and Renault is down by 51.5%. We hope Kwid helps Renault clock consistent numbers like the Duster as it still has more presence than its partner Nissan.
