Next-gen Toyota Fortuner will debut globally on December 1 with new styling, upgraded interior and a revised safety suite

Toyota will unveil the next Fortuner globally on December 1, 2026 as the SUV heads towards one of its biggest updates in a decade. Toyota South Africa has already confirmed the premiere date and we can expect it to launch in our domestic market sometime next year. The current Fortuner generation dates back to 2016 as the upcoming model will arrive after a particularly long run in several international markets.

The familiar 2.8-litre turbocharged diesel engine could stay at the centre of the range. Toyota could also persist with the 48V mild-hybrid diesel configuration already sold in India under the Neo Drive badge. Manual and torque converter automatic transmissions are likely and selected variants should retain four-wheel drive and a low-range transfer case. The 2.7-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine could also survive in India.

The cabin is expected to change far more extensively. The top-of-the-line variants have been reported to get twin 12.3-inch displays – one each for the digital instrument cluster and infotainment system. A 360-degree camera, wireless charging, powered and ventilated front seats and connected functions are also of high possibilities. Elsewhere you could also find over-the-air software updates and a panoramic sunroof.

Speculative Rendering Based On Spy Shots

Toyota Safety Sense is expected to become considerably more prominent as test vehicles have already shown radar systems in the lower front bumper and camera equipment behind the windscreen. The Level 2 ADAS tech will more likely enable the presence of adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking and lane keeping assistance.

The exterior will also move noticeably away from the outgoing SUV. Spy vehicles indicate a taller grille, raised bonnet, sharper headlamps and a more upright front profile. The sides get pronounced wheel arches and visible side steps as the rear comes with a redesigned tailgate ensuring a sleeker overall stance. Toyota’s teaser has already shown a connected LED light bar and the visual treatment is expected to share visual influences with the latest Hilux.

Global media reports point to an upgraded IMV-based ladder frame platform instead of a switch to TNGA-F. The seven-seater configuration should return and Toyota is also expected to revise the suspension and chassis tuning. Upon arrival in India, it will take on the recently launched Kia Sorento, Jeep Meridian, Skoda Kodiaq, MG Majestor and Volkswagen Tayron.
