Toyota Kirloskar Motor has introduced the facelifted avatar of the Glanza in India at a starting price of Rs. 6.99 lakh (ex-showroom). The revised hatchback is available in five grades: E, S, G, V and V(O) and the lineup comprises 13 petrol and CNG configurations with the top-spec V(O) AMT priced at Rs. 10.98 lakh (ex-showroom). The update brings in additional safety equipment, new styling and a three-cylinder petrol engine.
The Glanza now features a 1.2-litre Z12E petrol engine making 82 hp and 112.4 Nm of torque. Transmission choices include a five-speed manual and a five-speed AMT. The CNG version produces 69 hp and 101.8 Nm, and Toyota has introduced an automatic transmission option for this fuel configuration for the first time. Claimed petrol mileage stands at 23.80 kmpl for the manual and 24.77 kmpl for the AMT. The corresponding CNG figures are 33.61 km/kg and 34.47 km/kg.
The exterior receives a redesigned front bumper, a larger grille with chrome detailing and new side skirts. The Glanza also gets seven exterior colours including the newly introduced Bluish Black and Digital Teal Green. Safety equipment across all grades includes six airbags, electronic stability control, hill-hold assistance, ABS with EBD and ISOFIX child-seat mounting points. A tyre pressure monitoring system is available from the S grade.
The entry-level E grade is restricted to the petrol/manual configuration. The S introduces the first automatic transmission option alongside the seven-inch touchscreen, wireless smartphone connectivity and rear AC vents. The S also serves as the starting point for CNG variants which are now available with manual and AMT gearboxes. Prices for the S range from Rs. 7.71 lakh to Rs. 9.31 lakh (ex-showroom).
The G grade gains a substantial equipment upgrade over the S. The additions are a nine-inch touchscreen infotainment system, LED projector headlamps, automatic climate control, push-button start, a wireless charger with active cooling and Toyota i-Connect tech. The G also gets a reversing camera and 16-inch alloy wheels. Its petrol/manual version costs Rs. 1.02 lakh more than the corresponding S and the CNG/manual price difference stands at Rs. 92,000.
The V grade adds ventilated front seats, a head-up display, a 360-degree camera and a Clarion audio system. The V(O) builds on this equipment with Level 2 ADAS system such as adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assistance and autonomous emergency braking. The V(O) manual costs Rs. 50,000 more than the V manual while the automatic carries an additional Rs. 39,000. Both grades are restricted to petrol engines.
The G is the best-balanced Glanza variant in our opinion considering its equipment and price. It comes with several practical upgrades over the S without the substantial expenditure associated with the V. The G also provides the complete selection of petrol and CNG transmissions. Nevertheless, the V(O) deserves consideration for customers who specifically want Level 2 ADAS as the safety package costs comparatively little over the V grade. The E is suitable for customers seeking the least expensive Glanza. It includes the essential safety package but misses a factory-fitted touchscreen and several convenience features available from the S.
