Mahindra introduced new S9 variant positioned below top-spec S11 and it is packed with lots of features
Mahindra officially launched S9 variant of Scorpio, which is placed below top-spec S11 at Rs. 13.99 lakh (Ex-Showroom). The Scorpio facelift model was introduced last year and since then sales are hovering around 4000 units consistently, which is a good sign for the company.
The S9 variant is packed with lots of features like touchscreen infotainment system but misses out Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, navigation system, automatic climate control, Intellipark, multi-function steering wheel, cruise control, hydraulic assisted bonnet, ORVMs with integrated indicators, anti-roll technologies, cushion suspension and more
When compared to the top-end model, the price difference is around 2.4 lakh and the company is offering most of the features available on S11 in the new S9 variant, which makes it better value for money and it will help Mahindra to improve sales. The Scorpio is already offered with lots of discounts.
The Scorpio S9 variant is powered by 2.2 L mHawk diesel engine and the power output was increased during the last update as this engine produces 140 hp of power and 330 Nm of torque, when compared to pre-facelift model power increased by 20 hp and torque by 40 Nm.
This engine is mated to 6-speed manual gearbox and the company is also offering the four-wheel-drive system as standard with this new variant. The Scorpio is offered in four variants – S3, S5, S7, S9 and S11 and the SUV comes in four different colours – Pearl White, Napoli Black, Molten Red and DSat Silver.
The S5 and S7 are powered by the same 2.2 L mHawk engine but the power output stands at 120 hp and 280 Nm. The entry level S3 is powered by a 2.5 L m2DICR diesel engine with 75 hp of power and 200 Nm of torque. The S3, S5 and S7 come with 5-speed manual gearbox only.
