Monthly car sales figures show that the Maruti Cias has regained the top spot in the C2-segment of the Indian car market. Hyundai Verna bags a distant second spot

The Maruti Ciaz has sold 7,002 units in the month of August 2018. With this, the C2-segment sedan has regained the top spot in the segment. The Hyundai Verna, which has been at the top of the C2-segment sales chart since a while, has managed to achieve a distant second spot with sales of 3,361 units. It’s worth a mention here that sales of the Ciaz had taken a plunge owing to the suspension of production ahead of the launch of the facelift that came last month.

The Maruti Ciaz facelift is on sale at a starting price of Rs 8.19 lakh. The recent facelift features an updated design, a new petrol engine, and additional features. The revised sedan gets a new front fascia that comprises of a new grille, a bolder bumper and updated headlamps. At the rear, the car gets chrome highlights for the bumper and new LED taillamps.

In the side profile, the Maruti Ciaz facelift gets new 16-inch precision-cut alloy wheels in a Metallic Pebble Grey finish. The interior has remain largely unchanged, save for a new Birch blonde faux wood trim that replaces the darker trim on the earlier version. Even the instrument console is new and gets a coloured TFT MID.

Other than this, the updated sedan gets many new safety features, including a speed warning alert that beeps every minute at speeds above 80 kmph. At speeds above 120 kmph, there’s a prolonged beep. The interior also gets cruise control and adjustable rear-seat headrests. The automatic models get ESP and Hill Hold Assist.

There’s also a new petrol engine that replaces the earlier 1.4-litre petrol engine. The new K15B motor comes mated to a five-speed manual transmission as standard and a four-speed automatic as manual.

It also gets the second generation of the SHVS mild hybrid technology. The new engine offers 104 PS and 138 Nm, which is a 13% rise in power and 6% increment in torque. With an ARAI-certified fuel mileage of 21.56 kmpl, the new engine is the most frugal petrol engine in its class.

The diesel engine continues to be powered by a 1.3-litre, turbocharged unit that outputs 90 PS and 200 Nm. This engine features the earlier SHVS tech and offers an ARAI mileage of 28.09 kmpl. This makes the Ciaz the most fuel-efficient diesel model in its segment.
