5-door Mahindra Thar will be more spacious than the existing three-door model and it will be sold in petrol and diesel engine options
Mahindra & Mahindra has been spotted testing the five-door version of the Thar several times on public roads and it will compete with the forthcoming five-door Force Gurkha upon its arrival in the coming months. Before its market entry, the lifestyle off-road SUV will make its global premiere on August 15, 2024, the Indian Independence Day.
The forthcoming Mahindra Thar five-door model is rumoured to be named the Thar Armada and will be manufactured on a dedicated production line. Positioned as a more upscale offering compared to the three-door version, the five-door Mahindra Thar will feature larger dimensions and a host of new features inside the cabin.
Furthermore, an electrified version of the Thar could arrive by 2026 – previewed in concept form at the Futurescape event in South Africa last year. Notable exterior enhancements are in store for the five-door ICE Thar featuring redesigned front grille and bumper elements. LED technology will also be integrated into the headlights, tail lights, turn signals, and fog lamps, bringing more modernity.
Moreover, alterations are expected in the rear quarter glass area and rear door handles. Top-spec variants will come with new 19-inch alloy wheels, adding to the vehicle’s allure. The interior could boast a dual-tone theme along with an updated centre console, a larger 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, an all-digital instrument console may emulate the design seen in the XUV700, etc.
The larger Mahindra Thar will be equipped with the same powertrains as the current three-door model, featuring the 2.2L mHawk four-cylinder diesel and 2.0L mStallion four-cylinder petrol units. Both engine options will be available with a choice of six-speed manual and six-speed automatic transmissions.
The five-door Mahindra Thar is set to share the ladder frame and suspension with the Scorpio N and the starting price could be around Rs. 15 lakh (ex-showroom). It is expected to come loaded with features, including six airbags, disc brakes on all four wheels, an electric sunroof, rear air conditioning vents, an engine start/stop button, and a lot more.
