Kia EV9 Concept 2023 Auto Expo 3

While the Kia EV9 flagship electric SUV will launch later this year, two more EVs have been confirmed for 2025

Kia will introduce the already confirmed electric RV based on the Carens and the electric version of the Clavis in the second half of next year. The South Korean auto major will launch its flagship electric SUV, the EV9, in H2 2024 and it will be brought into the country via CBU route. Read on to learn more about these models:

1. Kia EV9:

Riding on the momentum created by the well-received EV6, Kia appears to be planning to bring in the seven-seater EV9 before the end of this calendar year in India. The reigning World Car of the Year and World Electric Vehicle 2024, the EV9 is based on the modular E-GMP skateboard platform found in the latest crop of Kia and Hyundai EVs.

Based on the ‘Opposites United’ design philosophy, the EV9 resembles its conceptual version and it rides on 21-inch wheels in the top-spec trim. We do expect Kia to offer both single and dual electric motor configurations in India utilising a 99.8 kWh battery pack or the base 76.1 kWh battery exclusively available abroad as RWD model could be sold here. In its higher specification, the EV9 can do 0-100 kmph in 5.3 seconds and boasts a WLTP range of 541 km.

2. Kia Clavis EV:

The Kia Clovis is currently being tested in India as well as in Korea in its IC-engined avatar. In early 2025, the Clavis ICE will make its global debut before going on sale in markets like India while its zero-emission iteration will arrive in H2 2025. Internally codenamed AY, the ICE Clavis will be positioned above the Sonet in the brand’s lineup.

The EV, on the other hand, could become the most affordable electric offering from Kia in India and it will get notable visual differences compared to its ICE sibling. Expect it to compete with the Tata Punch EV and entry-level variants of the Tata Nexon EV.

3. Kia Carens EV:

Carens ICE

The Carens ICE arrived at a time when the popularity of MPVs had been fading away. However, it did help in the segment’s revival and has emerged as a decent seller for the brand over the last few years. The Carens EV could become the first mass-market electric seven-seater MPV from a mainstream manufacturer banking on its practicality and it could have a claimed range of 450-500 km.
