The year 2023 has been an exciting roller coaster for the automotive industry and we expect the same in 2024 as numerous new car launches are lined up for the Indian market. Let’s have a look at the upcoming 24 cars in 2024 in India.

1. New-Gen Maruti Suzuki Swift

Expected Launch: FEB 2024

One of the best-selling models to date for India’s largest manufacturer Maruti Suzuki, the Swift is set for a new generation model in the year 2024. Expected to carry a host of changes to the exteriors as well as interiors, some reports suggest that the updated model’s highlight will likely be the new 1.2 litre Strong Hybrid petrol engine with a claimed fuel efficiency of above 35 kmpl.

The current petrol and CNG options will be retained as it is. The hatchback is expected to make its global debut at the upcoming Tokyo Motor Show.

2. New-Gen Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire

Expected Launch: MARCH 2024

Dzire, Maruti Suzuki’s compact sedan will be launched alongside its hatchback sibling Swift in the Indian market. The changes in the new-gen model will be in line with the new Swift and both these cars are expected to carry a similar design language, much like the current duo. The new 1.2 litre efficient strong hybrid engine is on the cards along with regular petrol and CNG options.

3. Maruti Suzuki 7-seater SUV

Expected Launch: OCT 2024

The 7-seater SUV from Maruti Suzuki will be based on the Grand Viatra and it will rival the likes of Tata Safari, MG Hector Plus, Hyundai Alcazar and Mahindra XUV700 amongst others in the Indian market. Codenamed Y17, the four-wheeler is expected to launch by the end of year 2024. The SUV will utilize the existing Global C platform, however, the wheelbase will be longer than the Grand Vitara.

4. Toyota Taisor (Fronx-Based Subcompact SUV)

Expected Launch: FEB 2024

Maruti Suzuki Fronx-based coupe SUV will likely be launched in 2024. Sporting the same set of underpinning and powertrain, the car will be powered by the familiar 1.2 litre K12C engine available with petrol as well as CNG fuel option and the 1.0-litre BoosterJet turbo petrol motor. Subtle design changes are quite obvious like bumpers, front grille and alloy wheels. The interiors and equipment set will remain the same, minus some minor changes to the upholstery.

5. 2024 Toyota Fortuner

Expected Launch: NOV 2024

The most popular SUV in the Indian market, the Fortuner due for a major update and it is expected to debut in 2024. Based on the brand’s new TNGA-F platform, the SUV will be powered by the familiar 2.8-litre turbo diesel engine paired with a mild-hybrid system.

A strong hybrid powertrain is also a possibility, however, there is no concrete information about it. In terms of design, major changes are quite obvious, something along the lines of the latest global spec Tocama pickup truck.

6. Tata Harrier Petrol

Expected Launch: APRIL 2024

Tata Motors recently launched the Harrier Facelift and it did miss out on a petrol engine which was highly anticipated after the company showcased it at the 2023 Auto Expo. In the latest development, the Indian carmaker has confirmed the arrival of the 1.5-litre tGDi petrol engine next year i.e. 2024 and it will be powering Harrier along with the Safari. So, the Harrier will soon be at par with its rivals which are already offering both engine options.

7. Tata Safari Petrol

Expected Launch: APRIL 2024

Along with Harrier, the Tata Safari will also get the new 1.5-litre tGDi petrol engine. As per the brand’s commitment, the Safari petrol will roll on the Indian tarmac in the year 2024.

The engine’s power output is rated at 168 bhp and 280 Nm of peak torque mated to the option of a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed DCT gearbox. The oil-burner 2.0-litre turbo diesel unit will continue to be part of the package.

8. Tata Curvv EV

Expected Launch: NOV 2024

Based on Tata Motor’s new Generation 2 EV architecture, the Curvv EV was unveiled last year in April. The Gen 2 platform is nothing but a modified version of the Gen 1 platform underpinning the Nexon EV and it is flexible to accommodate multiple body types and powertrains.

In terms of specifications, the car will come with a claimed range of 400-500 kilometres on a single charge. As for the launch timeline is concerned, the EV is expected to debut next year in 2024 and it will be followed by the launch of its ICE-powered version.

9. Tata Harrier EV

Expected Launch: MARCH 2024

Showcased at the 2023 Auto Expo, the electric derivative of Harrier will sport a completely new design language, quite different from its ICE counterpart. However, the upcoming Harrier Facelift will bear some similarities to the concept revealed at the Auto Show.

The Harrier EV will be based on the OMEGA-Arc platform; however, the platform will be heavily reworked to accommodate the electric powertrain. Market launch is expected sometime next year i.e. 2024 and it will get a dual motor AWD setup.

10. Tata Punch EV

Expected Launch: FEB 2024

Tata Motors is all set to launch an electric version of Punch in the Indian market. Based on the brand’s Gen 2 Sigma architecture, a more electric-friendly version of the Alfa platform, the test mule of the EV has already been spied testing multiple times on the roads.

Expected to launch next year in 2024, the Punch EV will be the brand’s 4th electric offering in the country. The claimed range of the electric Punch will be anywhere around the 300 kilometres mark using a battery pack of 30kWh approx.

11. Honda Sub-4-Meter SUV

Expected Launch: SEP 2024

As per its commitment to launch 5 new SUVs by 2030, Honda Cars India is preparing to launch another compact SUV which will further strengthen its roots in the country. As per reports, the WR-V will make a comeback in a completely new avatar which was discontinued this year in April.

We expect the Indonesian spec model which measures around 4 meters in length to make it to the Indian shores. The design will be in line with the Elevate and it will likely get ADAS tech.

12. New-Gen Honda Amaze

Expected Launch: APRIL 2024

Honda’s compact sedan has become a slow seller and will soon get a new generation model. Slated for a launch in the year 2024, the four-wheeler will be based on the updated version of the existing PF2 platform.

The familiar 1.2-litre i-VTEC engine putting out 90 bhp and 110 Nm of peak torque will be retained. The design language will be in line with the brand’s latest offerings, i.e. the latest City and Accord sold in international markets. The 2024 New-Gen Amaze will also get ADAS.

13. Mahindra Thar 5-Door

Expected Launch: AUGUST 2024

Mahindra & Mahindra is set to launch the much-awaited Thar 5-door next year. The test mule of the SUV has been spotted multiple times across India, suggesting the rigorous testing it is undergoing. The Thar 5-Door will borrow its platform and powertrain from the Scorpio N.

This means the 2.2 litre mHawk diesel and 2.0 litre mStallion petrol engine will be part of the package. It will likely be available in both RWD and 4X4 configurations. 5 proper doors, a usable boot space, a longer wheelbase and off-road capabilities will be its USPs.

14. Mahindra XUV300 Facelift

Expected Launch: FEB 2024

The XUV300 Facelift is expected to launch early next year. It will get comprehensive updates to its exterior design in line with the XUV700 and upcoming BE electric line-up. Inside the cabin, expect the new model to sport subtle changes to the dashboard layout along with a new infotainment display, a new centre console and we could also get a fully digital instrument cluster.

Major revisions to the feature list are quite obvious. The powertrain department will remain unchanged, however, the AMT gearbox could be replaced by a proper torque converter automatic gearbox.

15. New Mahindra XUV500

Expected Launch: SEP 2024

The XUV500 nameplate will make a comeback as a new mid-size SUV for the Indian market. To be positioned between the XUV300 and XUV700, Mahindra will rival the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara and the likes with its 5-seater XUV500. Internally codenamed S301, the SUV could debut sometime in 2024 and is expected to measure around 4.3 meters in length.

16. Kia Sonet Facelift

Expected Launch: FEB 2024

The Kia Sonet will soon get its first update in the form of a facelift model which is expected to be launched early next year i.e. 2024. Recently, the facelift model was revealed in full flesh by a few leaked images from an international portal.

In terms of updates, we will get revisions to the exterior design along with a few changes to the interiors as well. Mechanically, the sub-4 meter SUV will remain the same and will continue to draw power from the same set of powertrain options.

17. Kia EV9

Expected Launch: JUNE 2024

The flagship Kia electric SUV EV9 concept was showcased at the 2023 Auto Expo. The production-spec EV made its global debut earlier this year in March. Kia has confirmed the launch of EV9 in the Indian market sometime next year i.e. 2024 as a part of the brand’s 2.0 strategy.

The three-row SUV will sit above the EV6 in the company’s portfolio. Internationally, the EV9 comes in multiple powertrain options, including a RWD and AWD system. The WLTP claimed range of the Kia’s flagship electric SUV goes up to 541 kilometres on a single charge using a 99.8 kWh battery pack.

18. New-Gen Kia Carnival (KA4)

Expected Launch: JULY 2024

Showcased at the 2023 Auto Expo, the Kia KA4 is the latest 4th gen model of the Carnival premium MPV, which is already on sale globally. As claimed by some media reports, the new model is expected to debut by early 2024.

The KA4 MPV will be based on an all-new N3 platform and will be powered by the familiar 2.2-litre turbo diesel engine, putting out 200 bhp and 440 Nm of peak torque. The next-gen model will grow significantly in terms of dimensions, thus leveraging more space inside the cabin.

19. Hyundai Creta Facelift

Expected Launch:FEB 2024

One of the most awaited cars in the market, the Hyundai Creta Facelift will likely be launched in the first quarter of 2024. In terms of changes, the design will be updated which will be in line with the brand’s latest Verna and it will be different from the international spec model.

The interiors will likely get minor tweaks along with a new set of features such as a 360-degree parking camera, ADAS and more. The powertrain package will remain the same, minus the new 1.5-litre tGDi engine putting out 160 bhp and 253 Nm of peak torque.

20. Hyundai Alcazar Facelift

Expected Launch: MARCH 2024

Launched in 2021, the Hyundai Alcazar will soon be due for a mid-life update and we expect it to launch in 2024, sometime after the launch of Creta Facelift. Recently spotted testing in India, the 3-row SUV will carry a similar design to the Creta Facelift which will be in line with the brand’s latest design direction.

The powertrain will remain the same, however, expect the SUV to take a big leap in terms of features and equipment on offer.

21. Hyundai Exter EV

Expected Launch: NOV 2024

Hyundai launched the Exter in July this year and it was introduced with petrol as well as CNG fuel options. Further expanding its scope, the Korean carmaker is preparing to debut the Exter EV in the Indian market.

This comes after the test mule of the electric micro-SUV was spied on the roads. While the details about the car are scarce, we expect it to use a 25-30 kWh battery pack with a claimed range of 300-350 kilometres. The specs will be at par with its rivals like the upcoming Tata Punch EV, Citroen eC3 and MG Comet EV.

22. Volkswagen ID 4 EV

Expected Launch: APRIL 2024

The Volkswagen ID 4 was being tested in India as the company was evaluating its launch possibility in the country. While the ID 4 is a time-tested product as it was globally introduced back in 2020, however, the German carmaker was testing it to get everything right as per India’s climate as well as road conditions.

We expect the ID 4 EV to debut next year in India and it will likely be priced around Rs. 50 lakh (ex-showroom). The EV comes with a maximum claimed range of 480 kilometres on a single charge.

23. New Volkswagen Tiguan

Expected Launch: APRIL 2024

The third-gen Volkswagen Tiguan made its official debut globally in September 2023 and its market launch is scheduled for next year for overseas markets. While the current-gen Tiguan is on sale in India right now, we can’t really comment on the launch of the new-gen model here.

The updated model gets a major overhaul in terms of design and is based on the company’s new MQB-Evo platform. Internationally, the SUV is offered with a variety of engine options like mild hybrid petrol and turbo diesel available in both two-wheel as well four-wheel drive options.

24. New-Gen Skoda Kodiaq

Expected Launch: APRIL 2024

The next-generation model of the Skoda Kodiaq SUV will soon make its international debut and recently, the new interiors were revealed by the company. The India launch of the new Kodiaq is expected to take place next year and the four-wheeler will likely be sold here via the CBU route. The pricing will go upwards of Rs. 40 lakh (ex-showroom) and the SUV will be a major leap from the current model.
