2024 Honda City Hatchback gets mild exterior revisions along with the inclusion of new features; no mechanical changes are made

Following its debut last month, the facelifted Honda City hatchback has been showcased at the ongoing Bangkok International Motor Show 2024. It has received minor exterior changes but new features are onboard to stretch the lifespan of the existing generation. It is in line with the updated City midsize sedan, available in Thailand.

On the outside, the 2024 Honda City hatchback gains a sharper chromed-out bar with a new mesh pattern. The revised front bumper gets a new fog lamp garnish and honeycomb mesh for the lower air inlet in the RS variant and an aggressive diffuser. The bumper section as well as the rear features notable changes in the non-RS variant to have a clear differentiation.

In Thailand, the updated City hatch is sold in a total of five trim levels including S+, SV and RS with prices ranging between 599,000 baht (Rs. 13.75 lakh approx) and 749,000 baht (Rs. 17.20 lakh approx). These variants derive power from a 1.0L inline three-cylinder VTEC turbocharged petrol engine producing a maximum power output of 122 PS at 5,500 rpm and 173 Nm at 2,000 to 4,500 rpm.

The powerplant is linked with a CVT automatic transmission. The strong hybrid e:HEV variant has been presented in the new SV trim along with the RS grade. The former is priced at 729,000 baht (Rs. 16.74 lakh) while the latter costs 799,000 baht (Rs. 18.35 lakh). The e:HEV hybrid variant retains the automaker’s Intelligent Multi-Mode Drive (i-MMD) hybrid system.

It comprises a primary electric traction motor generating 109 PS and 253 Nm of torque, delivering power through a single-speed transmission. Additionally, a 1.5L Atkinson-cycle four-cylinder DOHC i-VTEC petrol engine serves as a generator, efficiently recharging the battery and ensuring seamless operation of the hybrid drivetrain.

The system develops 98 PS at 5,600 to 6,400 rpm and 127 Nm at 4,500 to 5,000 rpm. Some of the highlighting features are new USB-C charging ports at the rear of the hybrid, Honda Sensing as standard enabling Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS), Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS), Road Departure Mitigation System, Auto High-Beam (AHB), new electronic parking brake and a lot more.
